Cakes in Jacksonville / Orange Park

Who do you ladies suggest using for cakes?? I checked out Gilmon's Bakery today and they were really sweet but - I'm in sticker shock at the price I was quoted. I really wasn't wanting to spend that much money.
Thanks for the suggestions!

We are going with Publix.  I've been to several weddings with Publix cakes and they were amazing.  We are meeting with them this weekend to discuss ours and get a quote.

I have heard tons of good things about Publix cakes.  We visited their booth at the Bridal Show last weekend and are definitely going to contact them for a quote, etc.  We were also able to see a few actual displays and sample a couple of the cake flavors... YUM!  3 Sisters Chocolate was also at the show and their cake displaysand samples were also pretty incredible - they are in Jax on San Jose Blvd.

Of course there's always Classic Cakes and Metro Cakes.  We live at the beach and are going to contact Classic Cakes as well.

    Thanks Mary and MCollins :)

I've heard 3 sisters chocolate is great, I think I submitted a thing online for Classic Cakes and they haven't responded yet :( I'll have to give them a call tomorrow then. Maybe we'll check out Publix too. I appreciate the input.

Do either one of you know the 'avg' price per slice around here?

I am not using them for my wedding, but we've used them for things in the past.

mmmmmm....Cake!  My fiance and I have tried a ton of places:  Choux Bakery, Love at First Bite, Kakes by Katie, and a few others (those stick out).  Choux had a great product, but wasn't for us...her macaroons were!!!!  We'll be eating a few dozen of those at our bachelorette party!  Kakes by Katie was great!  Great Price!  Great Tasting!  Great Tastes!  My FI and I just didn't feel like we had a repor with her.  Love at First Bite has been great!  And that's who we've decided to go with.  She's very accomodating, sweet and her prices are...perfect for us!  Her cakes flavors, icings, and fillings had extremely great tastes.  She is amazing and we are extremely happy with our choice.  Good luck making your choice!

Thanks for the information! I went ahead and contacted them all. I've heard of Kakes by Katie from a photographer I interviewed with.
I appreciate all the feedback ladies.. Classic Cakes ended up being booked which is why they didn't call me back.

Choux cakes is who I booked. Let Them Eat Cake had a great cake as well but did not offer fondant. I took samples from a couple different places, including Publix, home then my fiance and I tried them. It was way easier to compare and choose that way. Good luck!

We're having our grooms cake and wedding cake made at Edgewood Bakery in Jacksonville.  They did my sister's and my cousin's cake and I've never had a better wedding cake.  They weren't as expensive as I had expected, definitely check them out.

Metro Custom Cakes is doing our cake.  They are awesome, and you should definitely check them out.  Three of my other vendors recommended them.  Classic Cakes is good also.  Be careful with Love At First Bite.  From what I understand, she bakes out of her home.  I didn't want to take a chance with her because of this although she was very nice.

Go with Publix for sure. Their cakes taste just as good if not better than the specialty bake shops and are usually half the price. I went to Edgewood first and they said it would cost $700 for a simple cake for 100 people. Went to Publix (and ended up booking them) and for the same flavors and same size cake it was half that of Edgewood. Good luck!

My brother had a cake from Kakes by Katie and I honestly wasn't very impressed, especially for the price. The portion sizes were larger than I've had at other weddings though. She did a good job with delivery and set up but did not stay to slice and serve the cake. Overall, I would give her a C because I didn't think the cost of the cake matched the taste of the cake.
