Unwanted wedding gift

I'm in a sticky situation and I need some help. My uncle wants to take the photos at my wedding as a wedding gift. The problem is he isn't exactly artistic and he's incredibly unreliable. I think pictures are one of the most important parts so I don't want to settle.

What would you do?

I would still hire a photographer but let him take pictures as well. Maybe tell him you already booked a photographer and can't get your money back. You know vendors once they get your money, mo matter what they're not giving it back lol. You can also say you appreciate it but you want him to have fun not work at your Wedding. Hope this helps.

Good for you for realizing that your wedding pictures should be left up to a professional! Explain to him that you want him to be able to enjoy the wedding day as a guest, not as a vendor but you would love copies of any candid pictures he takes.

Thanks Ladies! Apparently he and my mom aren't getting along too well at the moment so I'll have to tell him. Wish me luck.

Tell him you've got someone in mind already, but ask him to take pictures of the rehearsal dinner, engagement photos, or if he could do photos of various groups of family members while your professional photographer is busy with the wedding party.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Two of my aunt's do photography as a hobby. When I told my mom that I was going to hire a photographer she told me I was going to hurt my aunts feelings. I just told everyone that I had a specific idea in mind for my photographs but that I would love for everyone to take pictures of the guests having a good time. That way I have professional shots of my family, but also have lots of fun (free) pics of my guests.
