Florida-North Florida

NWR: Moving from northern NJ to St. Augustine

Hello from chilly, snowy NNJ.

My husband is considering accepting a job offer that would have us relocating to St. Augustine by April or May.

I've spent time in FL on both coasts but never so far north & certainly do not know what it's like to live there!

We've been researching as much as we can on the internet but first-hand feedback is always better, of course.

He'd be working IN St. Augustine & we wouldn't buy right away; rent a 2 BR condo or apt.

Any neighborhoods to target or avoid? Any suggestions in general, at all? :)

Thanks, ladies.

Jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

I just moved from that area myself... Unfortunately, I don't know any neighborhoods well enough to make any recommendations but if you need anything else, just let me know.

Ask this question on the First Coast/NE FL board on the Nest if you haven't yet :).  There are several nice neighborhoods just north of St. Augustine (St. Johns county area) that are very nice.  Also the Julington Creek/Racetrack Road area.

Be ready for a huge shock. St. Augustine is a gem as long as your in the right spots if you know what i mean. There is a very unique and cultured town but once outside of the town you are in a country style setting.
I would recommend like a previous poster to live closer to Jacksonville on the North side of St. John's county.

    All the best and Welcome.

I'm a transplant from NYC to Fl. It is a huge culture shock. The Batram Park area is nice and they have a huge selection of townhouses for rent. There is also a apartment complex off of state road 16 in St. Augustine near the outlet mall.

I am also a north Jersey transplant.  I live in Jacksonville and I promise you... you will be in culture shock!  Ive been here 4 years and still am amazed by things down here (not always in a good way either).  St Augustine is Beautiful!  If you're like me... you are probably used to being able to walk places... the store... or wherever.  Not here in Jax.. you have to drive everywhere.  If you pick a good spot in St Aug (i love the historic area).. I think you might be pretty happy. I would love to move to St Aug but we are pretty planted for the time being.  Good luck!!
