Florida-North Florida

Any others freaked out about this oil spill?

I was really trying not to worry about it until I heard today that the oil is only 9 miles from Pensacola beach now and expected to hit land in the next couple days.  I guess now I'll just hope for the best and minimal damage.  I feel bad thinking so selfishly, I mean it's so sad on so many other levels but I just keep thinking about our wedding pics being on a brown beach with the smell of petrol in the air...

My fiance did make me feel better and had some sweet things to say like how it doesn't really matter where we are, the important thing is that we're getting married and wherever it happens in whatever conditions, it will still be great ..

still a freaking shame..   Let me know if any of y'all have any more updates or hopefully some good news!  I'm live in Dallas so I have to depend on the internet articles I read or the news.. my wedding is in less than two months so hoping and praying for the best!

I live in Northeast Florida (so it's not physically affecting us) but we were thinking of moving to the west coast of Florida... but at this point, I don't know anymore.   Who knows how much worse this is going to get and how much of florida (and other states) are going to be damaged.

It's so terrible and I can't grasp the fact that our technology is so amazing and yet This has been happening for 44 days...

It's so hard to grasp that the beaches are about to be in this situation. After all, you probably didn't sit back once and go "Hmmm, what about an oil spill?" when you were planning!

I've lived in Pensacola my whole life, and if there's one thing I know, it's that this community is going to do everything it can to bounce back. Like your fiance said, the most important thing is the commitment you guys make together on that day....THAT will make it perfect! :)

Hang in there girl. We'll weather past this storm. We all just need some hope and a bottle of wine. ;o)

I can say Escambia County has been very proactive about givng classes to prepare volunteers to be able to clean the beaches and rescue wildlife when it is needed. So mny of Pensacola's people are ready and waiting to get this gone as soon as it hits. I just think it's a shame so many businesses are suffering before anything has hit us.

Thanks ladies!  That helps and I feel a little better now.  Yes, it's so sad to think of all the people that will be affected by this..

I'll be hoping for the best and come to think of it, I could really use a glass of wine...

I am totally freaking out now.... I have been so calm until I heard it was outside Pensacola- I am getting married in 8 days in Destin and I'm the same as you - thinking how  can I think so selfish yet we have paid all this money to travel and get married on the beach & now all everyone is going to talk about is the oil being associated with our wedding :(  - Who would of thought I might need a back up plan in case of an oil spill! -
What makes it even worse is that BP seems to be dragging there feet about it... There are so many things being affected by this and seems they are doing so little to help-
I will wish you luck and pray that by the time you make it that things will have changed for the better!

I'm so sorry Elissa.  I really feel for you and know exactly how you feel.  I'm really trying to stay optimistic and hope for the best.  I will be hoping and praying for all of us and for the beatiful beaches in hopes of VERY minimal or no damage!  I know it will be hard but try to relax and stay calm and you will still enjoy your day no matter what.. good luck!  : )

just so you ladies know, i was at casino beach (the public beach at pensacola beach) this morning and there is already oil on the shore. Its only little clumps here and there and there is no odor. However, it is very easy to step in some if you are not careful!

I was out there too, girl! Makes me wanna bottle up that oil and toss it into the CEO of BP's front lawn! Maybe then he'll step it up a bit and care?

    I'm so sorry, ladies.

I think I have been in denial about this situation as well up until just this week. I've spoken to a couple caterers about my proposed menus and being a Florida native I really wanted to serve my guests some of our delicious Gulf seafood. They all told me that it probably just won't happen. I was bummed but that's all I felt at that moment. But over the last few days, I've watched some interviews with people in the local area and put a face...a more personal approach...to what's happening down there and I am infuriated about the situation. Peoples' lives have been completely changed forever! People have died. Others are sick. Peoples' livelihoods have been altered. It's absolutely insane. Cry

I am equally disappointed we will be getting married right outside destin on 6/22 and I am pretty emotional about the whole thing.  Praying for the best.  Let me know how your wedding goes.

I am a Mrs. now and the beach was absolutely beautiful !!! NO OIL!!!
I'm hoping everything will stay that way - when we left Sat. Destin officials were still unsure if it was going to hit there or not b/c the current/ winds had changed directions keeping it out of the destin area - only a handful of tar balls had been reported but nothing else had been seen- all beaches were open and the water was still awesome!!
I hope that stays that way for everyone else that lives there and that is getting married there!! Good Luck ladies, I truely hope you all have amazing weddings b/c all the stress was totally worth it to walk down the aisle to such a beautiful thing!!
