Foot Surgery 6 Months Before My Wedding

I'm considering having foot surgery on my right foot to repair three toes that don't touch the ground when I'm standing. This issue came up over the last 6 months or so because my tendons in those toes are overly stiff & the bone has grown in such a way that those toes have trouble touching the ground when I stand. I have no pain associated with this condition, however, there are 2 red bumps on the top of my toes due to pressure, which I think look ugly. These bumps would probably be covered up in pictures though because I'm wearing peep toes. Basically, I can have the surgery right away & it'll take 6 weeks before I'm back in regular shoes again & possibly 8 weeks before I can wear heels. However, I've heard that your foot does not fully recover until 1 year post surgery- during that time you experience numbness & pain from swelling, the foot even swells on & off for 1 year. My wedding is April 10, 2010 & while that's enough time to get back into my peep toes, I am worried that my loooong wedding day (I'm on my feet starting at 8:30 to 2am due to cultural traditions) & constant dancing will ruin my good time. I worry that my feet will start swelling, which will keep me from wearing my dream wedding shoes & require me to sit down while not being able to enjoy the day with everyone else. So, should I have the surgery now or wait until after my wedding to go under the knife??? TIA!

Oooh, one more thing...I won't be able to apply pressure/impact to that foot for at least 6 weeks. I workout about 4-5 times a week & worry that this will affect my workout routine before the wedding. I know I would still have months to workout, it's only 6 weeks & I probably could find alternative exercises to do in the meantime, but the swelling worries me. I'm worried the swelling thereafter will interfere with my working out when I'm trying to get into the best shape of my life so I look great on my wedding day. I've asked my docs about this & they say these complications are possible side effects.

Wow that sounds kind of intense.  If it were me, and a slightly elective surgery, I think I would wait until after the wedding and honeymoon.  Since your shoes will cover up your feet for the most part and your dress, no one will be able to see them.  It doesn't seem worth the risk having the surgery now especially if you have no pain associated with your condition.  Good luck!

I actually had foot surgery 5 months before my wedding on both feet and it was such a hassle. Of course things didn't heal correctly and I ended having to wear flip flops. It ended up working out perfect because if I had worn heels I would have had to add some length to the dress. It would have been nice to even have the option though. I vote no on surgery before the wedding. Just one extra headache I didn't need.
