i really like the look of black stationary paper with white lettering and an accent color.

is that considered too "dark and dreary"?  i like to think of it as elegant, yet half a step away from usual.

    Definitely not!  That is a very popular style on vistaprint, magnet street and wedding paper divas.  I say go for it!  People are really shying away from the really formal invitations, and there are a lot of creative fun ones!

    We have a lot of black in our invitations and I love them. We have a little green accent with a ribbon and some trim, which helps. I wouldn't worry about them looking dreary, but if you are worried, a little hint of color (just a wee bit) might ease your fears. :)
