Arizona-Phoenix

Area Attractions

My current project is the wedding website.

I'm trying to come up with some local area attractions for out of town guests.  Any ideas?  (I think we might have talked about this before, but it's slow anyway so I thought I'd resurrect an old discussion.  Maybe it will be just as timely for someone else as it is for me!)

This is probably a dumb question, but are you looking for things in the Tucson area or Phoenix area? or both?

Phoenix, sorry.  I'm live in Maricopa, work in Scottsdale and am getting married in Scottsdale, but The Knot refuses to believe I'm not in Tucson.  It's frustrating.  :(

Oh, wait.  It just updated to Phoenix.  Well, it's about time!

    Carry on, then.  :)

This from my wedding website... copied and pasted... sorry if it is long.   Of course there are a ton of others, but these were many of the "top ten" on travel sites:

    Attractions

For those of you that have only a couple of extra days in Phoenix, there are plenty of activities that will keep you busy. If you have a week or so to spend in Arizona, there are many amazing sites to see! Here are some of our favorites!

    The Arizona Science Center

    (602) 715-2000

    600 East Washington Street

    Phoenix, AZ 85004

    www.azscience.org/" target="_blank">View Website

    View Map

This attraction over 300 hands-on exhibits that keep visitors involved. A great place for kids and adults alike!

    The Phoenix Art Museum

    (602) 257-1222

    1625 North Central Avenue

    Phoenix, AZ 85004

    www.phxart.org/" target="_blank">View Website

Located in the heart of down town Phoenix, this is a great place to check out for any age group. They constantly have new exhibits coming in so be sure to check the website to see what is current.

    The Phoenix Zoo

    (602) 273-1341

    455 North Galvin Parkway

    Phoenix, AZ 85008

    www.phoenixzoo.org/" target="_blank">View Website

    View Map

You'll find nearly any animal you can think of at this 125-acre, internationally renowned zoo, where fascinating trails lead you through an African savanna, a tropical rainforest and the Arizona environs, complete with wildlife of the respective region. Highlights are the giant Galapagos tortoises and a baboon colony.

    Golf

Phoenix is one of the wonders of the American golf scene. There are so many great courses to choose from. You may try to play Scottsdale Country Club as this is where the wedding is being held.

    Desert Botanical Gardens

    (480) 941-3490

    1201 North Galvin Parkway

    Phoenix, AZ 85008

Located in Papago Park, these gardens offer visitors an opportunity to learn about desert flora.

Hiking around the greater Phoenix area

Arizona's unique combination of desert and mountains are the equivalent of heaven to a hiker. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, you'll find exciting hiking adventures in the Phoenix area. Two favorites of the locals are Piestewa Peak and Camelback Mountain Preserve.

    Shopping in the Phoenix area

Check out some of the great shopping malls that Phoenix has to offer. Biltmore Fashion Center, Scottsdale Fashion Center and Kirland Commons are some favorites of Phoenicians.

    Sedona, AZ

    www.visitsedona.com/" target="_blank">View Website

    View Map

Head up to Red Rock Country for some spectacular views. Sedona is only 2 hours away from Phoenix, but the terrain is completely different from the desert. Here you can take a stroll along Oak Creek Canyon, take a back woods tour in a Jeep or take in the red rocks from the balcony of a fantastic resort. However you decide to spend your time here, you will not be disappointed!

    The Grand Canyon

    www.nps.gov/grca/index.htm" target="_blank">View Website

Just 2 more hours up the road from Sedona lies the Grand Canyon National Park. Since you are in Arizona, you should set some time aside to see the one of USA Today's New 7 Wonders of the World. For the brave, make sure you view the canyon from the glass skywalk that was recently unveiled in 2007. If traveling from Phoenix, the trip up to the Grand Canyon is about 4 hours.

    Las Vegas, NV

If you are staying a few extra days and you are craving some neon lights and glitter, you can be in Las Vegas, NV in under 6 hours by car. Or, check Southwest Airlines or US Airways for some great flight deals and you will be playing the slot machines in a few hours.

    San Diego, CA

    www.sandiego.org/" target="_blank">View Website

    View Map

While you won't be able to swim in the Pacific Ocean in November, you can soak in some sun and the fun that San Diego, CA has to offer. San Diego is about 6 hours from Phoenix. Or, check Southwest Airlines or US Airways for some great flight deals and you will be on the board walk in just a few hours.

Thanks!  I came up with a few on my own, but those give me some new ideas to add to my list.  :)

I swear it said Phoenix yesterday!   UGH.

I work in Scottsdale!  Raintree & the 101.  I drive the only Honda Insight I've ever seen on the road and, um, I sneak over to Paradise Bakery anytime I think my personal trainer won't notice?  />.>  I would kill for a chocolate croissant with an orange juice right now.  Seriously.  KILL.

Thanks for the list! An OOT friend of ours has been asking for stuff to do in Phoenix for a few months already (even though the wedding's not for another 11 months), and I've been completely unable to think of anything.
