Pickle Favor

I was about to eat a pickle when my fiance proposed, so we thought it would be fun to have little jars of baby dill pickles as favors. I want to make cute tags for them with our story on them. My problem is I don't know where I would be able to find little jars of pickles. I thought of buying small jars and then getting pickles in bulk to save money and re-jarring them. If we do this, they won't be vaccum sealed an I worry that they will go bad if not refrigerated or that people will be hesitant to eat them because the seal is "broken." Does anyone have any ideas or advice about this? I have zero experience with this sort of thing. Thank you!

Cute!!!  Although, I'm not much help as far as vacuuming sealing goes :) but I did want to say that I don't think it'd be too big of a deal that the seal was broken.  I wouldn't mind for a wedding favor (lots of brides do unwrapped candy favors that they put into jars, boxes etc and no one thinks twice about eating those).

Cute idea. I did a google seach and couldnt find anything. If you have the time and energy you could do your own pickles. It seems like a lot of work though. I was an episode of Good Eats where he made his own. What about those pickles in a bags? Maybe you can do something with those. Those are sooo yummy.

I think that's totally cute.  Do you know anyone that is into making preserves etc.?  I had a co-worker who used to buy all kinds of things in bulk for cheap and put then in jars to vacuumn seal them, they had some sort of machine.  Probably not a lot of people who have them, but if you had a friend that would be awesome.  Either way I think it's a totally cute idea.  I hate pickes, but I would love that favor anyway.

The very process of pickling allows pickles to last for a long time; it preserves them.  If anything, they can go limp (in my experience this takes months) or, if they are sugary, they can ferment.  I've never had that happen.  I'm not sure about keeping them in the fridge vs. out however.

Good point about the candy. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the comments. You've made me feel better. And janjan, I will definitely see if I know anyone with that thing you're talking about.
