I need affordable Save The Date ideas

Hi Knotties!

I'm wanting to order my STDs (that sounds just so weird to me) soon, and would love input on creative ideas that are also cost-effective.  Our date isn't until 3/2011- but I would love to get them ordered asap so we can send them out whenever.

I love the idea of doing something that involves a picture of us.  A friend of mine did a magnet- and that was really neat.  Any idea how much I'm looking at for that price-wise?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks knotties!!

Mine are in my bio under DIY.  I designed and ordered my postcards from vistaprint.  If you sign up for their emails, you can get 100 free.  You just have to pay shipping and handling. I think I paid around $15 total for them.   They were really great quality, and everyone commented on them.  We wanted to do the magnets, but in reality, only your really close friends and family will keep them and put them on the fridge. Sadly, many get thrown away :(

If you want to do magnets, I would suggest magnet street.  I have heard that they have the best deals.

I just ordered a design form Etsy.com.  I am working with the designer to customize it with our picture and wedding colors currently.  Most of the designers can send you the files in any format, so you can upload them to a blank template on Etsy or take them to a local print store to get them printed.  The templates go from 8 dollars to about 20 dollars.

I just got an estimate to have them printed and cut at Alphagraphics and it was about $70.  This included the color digital printing, the cardstock and envelopes for 60 save the dates.  Also, this includes them cutting them down to the size we wanted.  We are printing 2 on a page and need them cut to be 4.5x6.5.

Then, I am going to back them and add some DIY style to mine after.

I did the magnet thing, I ordered from magnetstreet.com and was very happy with them.  I honestly do not remember how much they were since it was a while ago, but if you give them your e-mail address they send you coupons, I bought mine after received a 50% off one.  I think they ended up being like 60 cents each or something like that.

I used newandblue.com and it turned out to be around $1 each. We did magnets with our picture, wedding date, and wedding website on them.

I've heard most magnets are at least 50 cents each. My friend got hers through, the knot, I think. They were postcard sized and a little cheap looking. I am going the postcard route like Nilla. It's so much cheaper! We are having a semi (non cheesy, I promise) baseball themed wedding. Lots of people pose with signs that say "Save" "The" Date, etc. One sign per word. To change it up, I'm making baseball pennants with those words. I think it'll be cute. :)

P.S. I totally agree with you about STD - it is the worst knottie achronism on here by far! haha :)

STD is no worse that BM  :)

I made my own STDs, and just got my "test" one back in the mail today!  I need to get a little thicker cardstock, but otherwise they seem fine.  If you don't mind going to DIY route, you could totally make your own.

For Valentine's day, people were throwing around VD, which is also bad. Maybe we could all send STDs to our BMs on VD. Hahaha. :)

Kimheartsscott, I'd love to see how you're making them with cardstock! I made bridesmaids cards with it and they were way cute. I've thought about trying to do other things with it. :)

I don't have pictures yet, but they are cardstock 4.25x6 in post cards!  :)

Thank you for all of the suggestions ladies!  I think I might go the postcard route with a creative picture on it.  I'm trying to figure out the Vistaprints website- to sign up for their e-mails so I can get some free stuff!!

I'm using our engagement pictures to make postcards through snapfish.com.  The price per card gets cheaper the more you order, and they'll even address them and mail them directly to your guests for a small additional fee!  :-)

I designed my own postcards in Photoshop. I got the postcards at Staples and the postcards to send out have cheaper postage. (saved me like $0.20 each save the date)...it adds up!!
