Table Linens

Just curious what everyone is doing for their table linens, as I just scheduled a meeting to discuss this stuff with my caterer (whom we're renting linens from) and I haven't given it much thought yet.

What color table linens will you have? Are you doing the same color for napkins as the table cloth? Are you doing table runners? Post pics if you have mock-ups or inspiration photos, please!

Re: Table Linens

  • My venue provides all that stuff so I just have to pick out the color. I am probably going to go with one of my wedding colors so either a wine color, pink, or champagne color.

When we met with our caterer two weeks ago, we decided on these ivory linens with some intricate ivory design on them (ivory on ivory). She had a bunch of colors that were included in our catering package, but I didn't really like any of them so we're doing ivory. I'm considering doing a runner down the head table, though. I'm considering doing a gold and ivory colored damask table runner, but I have a feeling it won't happen.

I'm planning to make these myself: cheaper than renting, more possibilities and we can use them at home afterwards. There's a big textile fair in two weeks where I plan to buy the fabric.

We'll have a very laidback, casual wedding. This weekend we decided to give it a bit of a picnic feel, if the weather allows. I'll probably have navy table cloths with polka dots, stripes or checkered patterns. I wanted to have lots of different cloths, but we decided on long tables, so I think one pattern will work better. No table runners, probably white paper napkins.

Apart from that, we decided to have some picnic blankets with large pillows for the younger crowds. I'm planning to make classic red-and-white checkered blankets.

I'll decorate these with picnic baskets (ideas of what to put in those are welcome), these balloons as 'centerpieces'

and little Ikea tables to put glasses on:

  • My catere supplies all the linens.  We're going with Royal Blue linens and napkins, but this isn't set in stone so we may change the color, eitehr way the table cloths will match the napkins and as of right now, no chair covers

  • Elinetrouwt, those are ideas are fantastic. Love them!

How are you making the table linens? Do you have a sewing machine? Are you using a pattern? I'm feeling crafty. :)

  • I purchased the overlays from efavormart.com.  The venue is providing the table cloths and napkins.  The napkins are black.

These are the centerpieces, the vases will be different but just so you can get a sense of the color contrast.  In person,  they are more purple than pink.

The guest tables will have royal blue overlays with black table cloths

The sweetheart table will have a lime green overlay with black tablecloth.

  • We are having black tablecloths, lavender runners, ivory napkins, and ivory chargers.  We might end up doing light silver napkins instead depending on how our budget turns out...not sure about this yet. My coordinator was concerned about ivory napkins sitting on top of ivory place settings/chargers not having enough "pop" haha...not sure if this is something I care about or not.

If you want to play with different colors and options, go to http://www.bbjlinen.com/

Then go to the "virtual design center".

Then you can play with different design options and color options and see what looks best.

It can be reallllllllly addicting.....so be careful.
  • Oh, holy hell penny and butterfly. You just gave me two new websites to look at.

Oo I have huge new folder of table setting pics on my computer at home haha, so I'll have post those whne I get home. My caterer/ venue also provides them. I have trouble finding inspo pics for my table style cuz I can't find many. We'll be having glass square tables with the linen underneath..only covering the base of the table. I've decided purple tablecover, silver seat cushions, red chair sash/bow and probably silver napkin. No clue what the charger will look like but we'll find something that goes. As far as napkin and tablecovers matching... I've seen just about everything. I think I prefer that they don't match, but I also think matching might be the most popular choice. Sometimes they match the seat, sometimes the table runner or sometimes people use the napkin for their accent color. Just about anything goes I think. I'll post some of my favorite table settings when I get home. What is your reception style btw? Maybe I can find some pics in your style?
  • Our venue providses them.  but the different colors cost more...we're just sticking with the basic white

Our venue provides as well - but only in white - which is fine by me.

  • My venue also provides them... we went with a white tablecloth with a champagne napkin and they have this pretty flourish design running through them.  I wanted to do all-white, but my mom insisted we don't do them the same color... she's paying so I don't really care.  :)

-Butterfly, that site is so cool! I think I saw someone post it awhile ago, but I wasn't in the linen planning mood yet. I'll probably spend the next hour playing with it, haha.

  • I'm so going to play with that site just to get an idea if what I want to do is going to look like I imagine it will.

Our venue provides linens in limited colors so we're using their ivory (one of my colors) and I'm adding chocolate brown runners, probably these:

www.efavormart.com - chocolate, dual-tone edition, tablecloths, table linens, wholesale tablecloths, round tablecloths, rectangle tablecloths, banquet tablecloths, flocking table runners

and then putting chocolate satin/organza ribbon around the napkins with an open velvet silk turquoise flower:

    http://www.efavormart.com/velvetbloomroses-turquoise-168pk.aspx
    http://www.efavormart.com/112satincenter-chocolate.aspx

I'm probably going to use the sashes that match the runner for the chairs and tie them from the base of the chair to the top without a bow like this:

    Chair Sashes 1
    Chair Sashes 2

and add another of the open bloom flowers like the ones on the napkin rings.

I have no idea what sort of place settings they have, but we saw the linens when we paid the deposit because they were setting up for another wedding.  I'll know more about that when we go back to hammer out the menu in a couple months.

<div>I have a sewing machine... I'm not using patterns, I'll either use an old tablecloth for measurements or just try to measure some straight lines. I'll have to look up some instructions on the internet, but sewing table linen is supposed to be really easy.</div>

  • Our venue provides the linens. We haven't picked them out yet, but we did see some options. I really liked this striped champagne/ivory tablecloth. It looked really classy. Haven't thought too much about those details yet though!

  • We are having black table linens and they are much cheaper to buy them than to rent them and if you know any wedding planners that is how you could get rid of them afterwards!  But back to your question, we are doing black table cloths with a ball of flowers that were purchased from Kirklands and some confetti diamonds.  My napkins will be turquoise with black plates and red placemats (which in turn will be our ceremony programs).  Our ceremony is in the same room as the reception.  Figured it would be fun to allow people to take pics with us and go through the whole thing with us AND IT WAS LESS EXPENSIVE! lol
    Happy Planning!

Thanks! One of my BMs is great with a sewing machine. Maybe she can show me . . .  :)

  • My venue provides the linens but if we want colored linens or overlays it is more money.  Right now we are doing the basic white table linens and napkins.  We are not doing chair covers either.  I'm going there in a week and a half to discuss all of our plans with the coordinator.

I think it was probably me, haha! I remember showing it to someone else who was going through linen-planning issues...and isn't the site addicting?? it is perfect for seeing what certain color layouts on a table ACTUALLY look like!
  • White table cloths, with white chair covers. Black table runner with red chair sashes.
