my first planning bummer

calla lilies are not included in my wedding package, they are an upgrade :(

however, even though i love calla lilies, i'm totally open to other flowers. calla lilies were just familiar to me and i'm not really into roses.

SO... my planning coordinator suggested dahlias. i like them, but i don't know if i love them, yet. i'm also a little worried that they aren't in season in january and wouldn't be as "fresh" looking. can anyone tell me a little more about dahlias? or other suggestions for flowers in general? mixes of flowers? my colors are black, ivory, and berry.

i feel like i've just had a brain fart and i can't think of anything. my idea for STD cards had a calla lily on it too... no biggie, i can change that, but grr! LOL

oh man, I know what you mean! I really wanted calla lilies, too, but then I heard they were basically one of the most expensive flowers. I think I'm going to go for the cliche roses now...

We're having dahlias and some other flowers in our bridesmaids bouquets in January.  My florist said that they look nice year round and they are great to mix with other flowers.  I think they're beautiful!  They're also reasonably priced so that's really nice!  Hope that helps :)

I'm having dahlias in January!  It shouldn't be a problem.  Plus, they are pretty big so you won't need many to have a full-looking bouquet.  I'm having a mix of dahlias, hydrangeas,  yoko ono mums, mini roses etc.

I love dahlias!  They look like cactus flowers to me, which makes them "feel" Arizonan.  That's a total emotional response, but, there you go. :)

I would go full charge ahead and negotiate!  Check out the cost of bulk callas and use that to bargain with.  They aren't nearly as expensive as you would think.  I would request the add on at the bulk pricing or maybe a little above.   Callas have one of the biggest wedding mark-ups from florists :(

we had calla lilies and they were beautiful!  BUT i'll let you in on something my florist told me.  To do a whole bouquet of CL is one thing, but if you want the look without paying the price, consider buying just a few and mixing them with other flowers.  We bought a dozen and had enough to cover the bridesmaids, who carreid simple 2-3 each, and the rest went in my bouquet with other white flowers.
