Is anyone looking to have their ceremony and/or reception here?

I was very close to signing the contract until I found out I could get Karsten Golf Course for free thanks to a connection I had. They were very reasonable though and the woman I met with there was so sweet and great! We were actually considering using Brett's Barn...the views out there are beautiful!

I have boycotted the Gila River Indian Community ever since the year they rounded up their wild horses (y'know, the ones the casino is named after?) by helicopter and sold them to slaughter.

We're looking into it, my friend had it there and loved it!  And so did her out-of-town guests.

Nevermind my post...I was thinking of Monterra at West World...but I have been to the Wild Horse Pass Resort and the area is beautiful, and when I was there we could see the wild horses not far in the distance!

I used to live in Maricopa, and I would see the wild horses almost every day on my drive to and from Phoenix for work.

Then the GRIC rounded them up.

    By helicopter.

    And sold them to slaughter.

    :(

WHY DOES NOBODY ELSE CARE ABOUT THE HORSES?

Celles, I didn't know that.  :(  Is Rawhide part of that?  If it is I'll feel like a major douche because I was there last month only kind of enjoying their over priced food.

Yes, Rawhide is a part of it.  :(

In GRIC's defense (such as it is), some population control is necessary or the herds would overrun the reservation and its limited space.  It's just frustrating that BLM regulations regarding the humane capture and treatment of wild horses and burros don't apply to GRIC because it's a sovereign nation.  And it's totally hypocritcal to show videos of the wild horses in all of the casino's marketing and THEN KILL THEM ALL OFF.   *rage*

Ugh.  I'm going to cling onto the fact that I didn't WANT to go to Rawhide.

Are you referring to Sheraton Wild Horse Pass?  If so, they were our first choice until we found out how inflexible they could really be.  I was very disappointed but in the end, we wound up with a great venue that I feel totally comfortable with.

And if that stuff is true about selling the horses off to be slaughtered, I'm glad we didn't go with them!  Sad.

So sad about the horses, how amazing would that be to see!?!?!

We considered having our wedding there, just double check the views from the ceremony locations.  You can see the parking lot at one of the sights...

I"m a little crazy about stuff like that, but it is a very cool spot... seems like it is very far from a city, and very earthy deserty feeling.
