Tipping

Hi ladies,

I'm about 6 weeks out from my wedding and as I try to finalize the last minute details and make sure I remember everything, one thing I'm trying to stay on top of is how much money we're spending vs. what we budgeted.

So...are you tipping your vendors? If so, do you mind me asking how much and what the expectation is?

Our photographer is going to cost about $3K, as will our videographers...I feel like we're paying a lot as it is..should I be planning on tipping on top of that?

TIA

From what I have heard if they own their own business you do not need to tip them, so chances are your photogs own the business.  The only vendor we have that does not own the company is our DJ, so we will tip him, not sure how much yet, myabe $50?

I've heard the same rule of thumb. If they have an assistant do you tip them?

Im not sure, my photog has a 2nd shooter, but I paid that person separatly and they have their own business, so I am not tipping him.  If it is just an employee that works for them as an assistant I may, depending on what they do.  Just carry the bag?  Probably not, that is what they are paid for.  IF they are actually acting as a photographer, then yes, I probably would.

Thanks ladies! The photog def owns her own, and her hubby is her assistant. The Videographers are 2 women, who are the owners...the DJ does not own the company, but we have offered to pay for his hotel for the night..which is 160.

Will you be tipping your florist? That's another one where we went beyond our budget for piece of mind...i.e. she's the only florist in the area we're getting married, and I didn't want to risk someone from Phoenix having a hard time getting to the wedding bc of an accident on the 17 or something.

Do you tip the Catering Manager? I wouldn't think so but also don't want to forget anything.

My florist owns her company, so no.  As for the catering manager, I used to be one and out of the hunderds of weddings I did I could count the number of times I got a tip on one hand.  As the catering manager you get a part of that HUGE gratuity that is tacked onto your price.  But, I must say, when someone did tip me or give me a present, it was very much appreciated.  I got a really beautiful silver jewelery holder once, it is still on my night stand, that was my favorite by far.  My catering manager has really done a fantastic job, so I am going to get her a nice bottle of wine or champagne and a thank you card.
