Is the certified copy of the marriage license just a photo copy of the portion the officiant mails in to the county recorder.... with an imprinted seal on it? And signature?

Yep. I was alittle upset being charged $26.50 for a copy.

I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything different when dealing with government and legalities.  *shrug*  It's not like there's no time and manpower involved in the filing/processing/sending of them.

I don't see it as a huge issue, especially in the grand scheme of the wedding world and costs involved...  $26.50 is like  bagging one lunch instead of going out.  LOL

I have to agree with Syndelin, I have had to order copies of government records many times over and they always charge a fee for it and they are all copies, some times on fancy paper, to be honest $26.50 isnt a bad price.

I guess I'm less upset about the amount of the price cuz I can understand having to pay for the staff and the time to record, but I'm more upset that a "certified" copy is just a photocopy with the seal stamped into the paper. I was at least expecting the type of paper that official birth certificates or MVD titles are printed on. I'm afraid that I'm gonna lose the certified copy because it looks like every other piece of paper mail that I get at my house.
