Arizona-Phoenix

Newly engaged:)

Hi All!
This is my first post on the board so I'm definitely looking for suggestions for every aspect of my wedding.  My fiance and I live in Brooklyn, NY and got engaged about 3 weeks ago.  The plan is to get married in Phoenix, which is my hometown, next March(ish).  I've been living here in NYC for about 4 years now and haven't had a friend get married in AZ in a while, so I feel like I'm a little out of the loop now as to what the best vendors would be.  We're planning on about 100 or so guests at our wedding and are open to indoor/outdoor depending on the space.  We'd like a more non-traditional wedding for the most part.  I'm having my mom scour venues for me.  This week she checked out some of the downtown Phoenix venues (MonOrchid, The Icehouse, and Bentley Projects) and also checked out the Japanese Friendship Garden, but none of which she thought were exactly right.  As of now for me, the Bentley Projects art gallery is a front-runner but we still have a lot of searching to do.  I should also mention that my fiance is a musician and spends a lot of weekends playing in wedding bands, so there's A LOT that he has opinions on and has soured to the idea of most things traditional.  I'm looking for a venue with a lot of freedom in terms of vendors as well.  The more flexible, the better.  Anyway, any input on where to start or where to look for the out of the ordinary would be helpful!

Thanks!

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the board! Weddingwire.com was really helpful for me when I was picking a venue, because it's very user-friendly and gives you a lot of information in terms of whether outside vendors are allowed, how many people it can fit, etc. They have great reviews, too. They're actually good for any vendor you're looking for.  I've found them to be very helpful!

Oh and if you're looking for some non-trad inspiration. The Knot's "Wedding Obsession's Blog" has a bunch of links to other blogs with some great ideas. Merci New York sounds like it might appeal to you. :)

Thanks Ladies!  I'd been looking on ArizonaWeddings.com for venues etc but hadn't heard of Weddingwire.com until now.  I'll start searching there!  Looking forward to posting my progress here and sharing ideas with everyone.

You might want to check out the Musical Instrument Museum that just opened up. I'm not sure what their policies are on events, but they are brand new. I've heard it's an amazing space!

Hey, I was in somewhat of the same predicament as you a few weeks ago. I live in Maryland with my FI, but am from Phoenix. Luckily, we had a visit already planned for the first week of May and were pretty sure we wanted to get married in Fountain Hills, where my parents live.

I set up five venue appointments, one or two for each day. We settled on a golf club, which was really reasonably priced, but sounds like that's too traditional for you.

I was going to check out 12 West Main in Mesa before I decided for sure I wanted FH. The pics online looked really good, so maybe that's something you want to check out?

After we booked the venue, we asked for a recommended list of vendors from the coordinator there. We were able to book a DJ, too, because of that.

Congratulations and welcome to the board!  I first thought of the Phoenix Art Museum.  It's a really fun and modern venue.

congrats and welcome. I am getting married in 4 days and will post my vendor reviews shortly after. i always found these really helpful. I would suggest searching (at the bottom) vendors reiview and browsing through some of those.

Thanks everyone!  I've been working with my mom setting up appointments and calling places.  Hopefully we can find a venue soon and get the planning started:)  It's a little unsettling picking a venue I've never seen so I appreciate all the input!  I'll keep everyone posted!

@misscastle - 12 West Main was somewhere I'd never seen before, thanks for the tip!
@sms274 - Congrats and good luck this weekend!
