White verse Off White Wedding Dresses

I just went to my first place to shop for wedding dresses.  I've been waiting because I'm been losing weight before we even got engaged.  I had a great experience.  I think I found the dress.  I tried the dress on in an off white color because thats the only one that they had in stock.  The dress comes in white too but the sales person, my mom, and my sister all think that the off white one looks the best because of my skin color.  My skin color is really pale and I don't go tanning since my skin is really sensitive.  They think the white is too white and makes me look more pale.  I'm having a hard time considering an off white dress when I thought I'd always wear white.  I know girls are wearing more off white dresses now of days but I'm not sure.  I was wondering if anyone has tried on off white and white dresses if it turned out that the off white looked better on them because of their skin color.  Thanks.

I'm ple, and a also going with Ivory.  I'll be honest...I don't think ANYONE looks super great in that much white-white fabric.

You will be the only one wearing an entirely white-ish outfit....a beautiful gown, no less!

I would go with off-white, especially since that is what you tried on, and already know you love!

What happens if you order it in white-white, and you don't like it?

I looked at both white-white dresses and off-white dresses and ended up with a dress in diamond white which is white, but not brilliantly.  It looked a lot better on me.  I think that even off-white dresses look white in a wedding.  If you don't want it to be too off-white, I would suggest shying away from a champagne color, but I think even straight ivory looks white when matched with the right skin tone.  Just my two cents.

My dress is "oyster" which is darker then ivory and lighter then champaign. I tried on all shades and that one definitely made my skin look the best. I think white tends to wash a lot of people out and really only select skin tones look good in that shade. Your dress will look white and like a wedding dress, even if its ivory. You've probably been to a few weddings where the bride was wearing ivory and didn't even know it wasn't white.
I say if it looks good and you love it, don't worry about it being "white". Just buy it because you'll look beautiful and feel beautiful in it!

My dress is ivory, but weirdly it doesn't look ivory. It's more of an off-white color like you mentioned. I tried on pure white dresses to which I really liked. I agree--what if you order it in white-white and you don't like it?

I am like you, very pale so white would wash me out even more. My dress in Ivory. I agree with PP, unless you are standing next to someone in white, it probably will not be glaring.

My dress is Ivory, also I work in Bridal, and it's very rare anyone actually looks good in a brilliant white. Ivory is much more flattering

My dress is champagne satin with an ivory lace overlay, so it all balances each other out, in my opinion. But, unlike you, I have a darker olive complexion, but I still can't pull of white-white. I personally don't think anyone really can.

Have you tried on any other dresses in pure white?  Even if it's not the exact dress you plan to buy, at least trying on a white-white dress will give you an idea of how flattering the color is on you.  That might help you decide whether to order your dress in white or off-white.

And I also agree with PPs that even if you wear an off-white dress, nobody will know the difference, so once you've decided which color looks best with your skintone, order what you like and don't stress anymore about it.  HTH!

My dress was ivory and in the sunlight it looked like a soft white. Personally, I think ivory photographs better than white. This is purely my opinion, but I think that white dresses can sometimes look cheap in pictures.
