Recommend your photographer (on a budget!)

We're starting to look at photographers and I was hoping I could get some suggestions here.  I know it's a long shot but we would like to stay under 1k, if possible.  Thanks!

I was quoted $1000 or less from the following photographers. Some of the quotes were from awhile ago and my wedding is in January, so the quote for your wedding might be different. Hope this helps!

GReyes Photography (This is who we booked.)
    Sherah G Photography
    Melissa Jaen Photography
    Artistic Dreams Photography
    Dominique Partlow Photography
    Neri Photo
    Patricia Anderson Photography

Jolie images.  Their packages start at $595, the reviews are fabulous and the portfolios are gorgeous.  We booked them yesterday.  Good luck!

Second on Jolie Images! They did an amazing job and they are really reasonable! I would suggest at least give it a chance and give them a visit.

Jolie is the only one I found that gave a full package for under $1000. I didn't end up going with them, but they do seem to have great pictures.

We also would have gone with Jolie but they were too far away from us. They said that they would do it, but that we should look for someone closer.

My friend had a "day after" wedding shoot with an individual she loved.  At the time (2010), the photographer seemed to be just starting out but my friend said she was super cheap and she told her that she should be charging more...not sure what her prices are though...

my friend is the one with the red shoes in the portfolio....!

This is a great idea.  I didn't follow through with it but I did find several photography students (through craigslist) who were willing to take photos for my wedding for free. What you want to look for is students who are starting out and looking to build their portfolio. I was planning to use this as a supplement to the photographer we hired but I just dropped the ball on following through with the students.

Have you tried Craigslist?  Looks like there are a lot of deals on there.  Just be careful.  If you find someone you like, get back on here and ask if anyone's used them.
