Kitchen Chicago anyone?

Hi!  I came across this venue in a blog after we had all but given up on having our in the city, loft-style wedding.  The prices are competitive with what we've seen in the burbs.  We're touring the venue tomorrow.  Has anyone had/been to a wedding here?  I think my concern, from looking at photos, is the ceremony and reception would be in the same room so, I'm guessing, we'd have to move the chairs after the ceremony?  I'll ask for details tomorrow.  Thanks in advance!

A good friend of mine actually is helping to promote the venue. It is a really different style and it looks beautiful. I would contact them and ask how they arrange it.

Have you tried Loft on Lake? www.loftonlake.com I considered them as well. It looks really nice.

It was recently featured on TLC's Four Weddings. They did the ceremony and reception in the same space -- while they were flipping the main space, everyone went to the upstairs area for cocktails.  Would probably only work for a smaller wedding, though.

One random thing from Four Weddings...multiple guests (and the bride) slipped and fell on the wood floors there!  If you do go with the space, maybe rent a real dance floor.

@romamor, we did consider loft on the lake but, like most city venues, it was out of our budget.  Kitchen Chicago would be around $2,500 and we could choose our own caterer and bring in our own liquor.

Thanks for mentioning that it was on 4 weddings!  I'm going to look up the episode now :)  We went today and it's even bigger in person than in the photos.  I asked about the ceremony to reception set up transition.  The coordinator did say that we would do a cocktail hour while the caterers set up.  We're only planning on having 100 guests.  We shall see :)  I'm just shocked there's a unique place in the city that we can afford!

    Sounds like a great deal!

Have you heard of/seen A New Leaf in Old Town?  I love that space; although the rental fee is a little more, but with what it includes, perhaps it'd be in your budget.

  • Hi there! I'm Melissa, the bride who's wedding was at Kitchen Chicago on Four Weddings. You will love the place...I wish I'd seen this post sooner, I could have given you links to some pics!  I'm not sure what made the floor slippery in that one spot, & of course when people fall down, it's going to make it into the show--so I don't think you have too much to worry about.  Also, TLC made everyone cram in upstairs while they were flipping the space, so they could get there shots of the reception room without anyone in it...hence why the other contestants comlained about it being crowded (we had 83 total guests.) If you allow people to mingle between the two spaces, you should have no problem. Here is a link to the blog post of one of my wedding photographers if you would like some ideas for the space.

Cheers, and may your wedding be awesome!  Melissa
