Late September Weather

Would you rather attend an outdoor reception on July 21 or September 29?
There is an indoor area to the venue, but I really want an outdoor dinner...What advantages pitfalls do you see with each?

Re: Late September Weather

  • July can be humid. September can get chilly if the fall winds come in early. I like outdoor weddings too. If a lot of your guests have kids and are coming out of town, September may not be the best idea as that would force them to have to miss school?
  • We were looking at getting married on October 1, 2011, but moved our wedding up a few weeks since we wanted an outdoor ceremony/cocktail hour and I'm glad we did. The weather was absolutely perfect for our wedding!  The weather on October 1, was chilly that day and I'm sure our bridal party and our guests would have been uncomfortable being outside for both ceremony/cocktail hour.  The weather at the end of September/early October can be tricky.  July tends to be pretty hot.  Can you take advantage of the outdoors by having cocktails or ceremony outside and dinner inside?
  • It's honestly hit or miss.  I feel like you just have to choose one and hope for the best but have a back up plan.

We had an outdoor ceremony 10/16/10 and the weather was amazing; 77 degrees and sunny.  My SIL got married 7/18/09 and had an outdoor cocktail hour; it was overcast and the high that day was 71.  In 2009 in early October it snowed.  It just kind of shows how weather have be all over the board.  We were all stunned when we looked up the records and found that our Oct wedding was warmer than the July wedding.
  • I dont think there is ever a guarantee on weather anywhere. July and August can be humid, and September and October can be surprisingly chilly. Often times you luck out though.
  • Weather is one of the joys of living in Chicago... I'm sure we've all experienced the heat in the car in the AM and A/C in the car in the PM on the same day. Ugh. I'd rather have an outdoor wedding in July vs. Sept. Personally, I do ok when I'm hot and can be a baby if I'm cold. But I've always got a sweater with me for the JIC moments. My wedding is 7-13 and I just hope it doesn't rain!
