Just wanted to pass along an amazing dress shopping experience I had. I had an old wedding dress from a previous engagement. I was told to try the consignment shop "The Bridal Boutique" in Naperville. I went and it's a tiny little appointment only shop, but they have a TON of gorgeous dresses at REALLY reasonable prices. Most of the dresses are sample dresses from other shops. I got a stunning ballgown dress, complete with a huge train, embroidery, pearls, crystals, you name it PLUS a veil, with taxes for $362 with my "trade in" dress. The owner is really nice, very helpful, and willing to work with you. If you're on a limited budget, its a great place to start!
