Cake - Question

Does your reception venue tell you when to contact the bakery that they use to have a cake tasting? or do you just contact the bakery directly at your discretion? What was your experience?  Thanks in advance!

Ours didn't.  I actually asked our reception coordinator how the whole cake thing worked, and she said that we had to call up the bakery and just let them know that we were having our reception at the hotel.  We set up everything and it was awesome.  The only comment I would have about the place that we are getting our cake from is that the list of flavors and fillings was pretty limited at first, since there were certain flavors and fillings that came with the package.  After I talked to the designer about the cake design, she told me that the custom flavors we were looking at were no problem at all and no extra charge.  I think if you go into it with what you want and are polite about anything that would be considered an extra, you can probably get what you want.  Good luck!

I contacted the venue and asked when and how we were supposed to do this. They asked me to pick a couple Saturdays when I am available and then they set up the appointment with the bakery for me. It's two weeks from now and I'm looking forward to it!

We contact the baker ourselves. Speaking of which, I need to do that...

Our venue gave us the option of 2 bakeries.  We just had to choose which one then we contacted the bakery ourselves and set up the tasting at the bakery.
