Friday vs. Saturday

Does anyone have any info on cost for a Friday vs. Saturday wedding? I am hoping to get an idea on the average "discount" for a Friday night.

In my experience, it varies widely.  Some were a few dollars I saw up to 10 or 15 somewhere I believe.  I would suggest researching the venues you are interested in and seeing whether the price discount is worth it to you for the venue you like.

I think our venue could have been 20%, but I may be way off. We are getting a great deal otherwise we would not be able to afford the reception venue. I agree with PP though, your best bet would be to call each place you're looking at and find out what discounts are available. You may be surprised to find out that some places are willing to negotiate certain things in lieu of discounts. My suggestion for this is to get everything in writing though! I have heard of vendors trying to go back on their word...

when i was doing research on the date, our venue, caterer, florist, photographer, and dj all offered around a 20-25% discount for fridays. with the savings good we still didn't do that because many of our guests wouldn't be able to make it. if you can get a great deal though and still have the people come that you want to be there, i think it is great.

Our reception hall minimum is $16,000 for Saturdays and $11,000 for Fridays. We are also getting a 10% discount and a free bar upgrade for holding our reception on a Friday.

The only advantage to having our wedding on a Friday night was the country club didn't require a 175 person minimum.

I think like some other people mentioned the minimum might just be lower, so depending on how many people you have, it may or may not matter. I have heard the discount isn't huge for Fridays now since a lot more people are doing them, but I didn't look into it.

Our hall was only $500 less for the rental, but the minimum guest amount was at least 50 people less, which made a big difference in our case, since our guest list was in between both minimum amounts. The bigger discount was that we are having it in the Off season (January - April). The rental fee was 50% less, the minimum guests was less, the plated dinners were discounted $2/person, the open bar was discounted $2/person, the ceremony fee was waived entirely, and the cake is free. Overall, we've saved nearly 50% from having a regular season Saturday wedding.

In general I saw 10% discount on food and lower or no minimums for Friday nights.  I think the better benefit of a Friday is that you get a wider selection of vendors.  A lot of highly sought after vendors (read florists, photogs, DJs and certian MUAs) book up really far in advance.  But with a Friday, you tend have a better selection. We did ours on a Friday and LOVED it.  Since our ceremony was in the afternoon we had some skip the ceremony and just go to the reception.  But honestly, I didn't even know they were not there!  :)  Good Luck!

Fridays have a 10-15% discount and are becoming more popular.  I heard my wedding planner say she is getting requests for weddings on WEDNESDAYS!
