PreCana

Hey all,  I just wanted to see if anyone else was doing PreCana this Saturday at St. Christopher's in Midlothian.  If you are, we'll see you there :)For those of you that have already done their PreCana, what should we expect?  FI & I have been together almost 7 years, living together almost 3, so I have a feeling that there will be a fair amount of things we already know, but it should still be good for us.  TIA!

I know that PreCana is different in every city (we did ours in NY, but got married in Chicago). The format for us was that we had a married couple who led us through topics, shared their views and experiences. Then we were given time to go off together (just the two of us) to discuss the topics. Topics ranged from raising children, our spirituality, sex, managing money, roles & responsibilities, etc. My fiance and I had been together for 6 years and living together for 1, but we still found some of the topics very useful. Sometimes you just don't take the time to sit down and really talk & think about topics. Nothing to be nervous about - its what you make of it!

I had a similar experience to PP, at our precana in Chicago. My fiance and I both really enjoyed it, but I think we got really lucky with who was proctoring it (he had such great stories, advice and really got us thinking). The one thing I will tell you is to go dressed comfortably. We dressed up and felt a bit silly because everyone else was wearing jeans.

Ditto to PP, FI and I found it very beneficial and actually enjoyable. Our Church does it a little differently (if you want to) so we went once a week for 4 weeks, 2 hrs each time. We found the topics and conversations helpful and the couples (both the host couples and the couples getting married) really nice and easy to talk to. I thought it was really good!

Thanks everyone!  We're already scheduled (and paid) for the one this Saturday.  There's no way our schedules would have worked any other way :)  I'm not too concerned about it, I went to catholic school for 9 years, I just like to know what Im getting myself into before I go ha ha ha.  I'm sure it'll be great.  Thanks again!  See anyone there that's scheduled to go with us!

not at the same place as yours, we already did ours and it was somewhat fun actually. some of it though we felt pressured with some of the ideas and commitments they wanted to make us swear on.

Same for mat format as all of the pp, and I completey agree it depends who leads your session. Ours was awful. They were an older couple who bickered the entire time (they had an actual tug-of-war over the microphone at one point. aaawkward!) They spent the rest of the time going off on tangents about their delinquent son. Really? This is what we have to look forward to??? Not fun! Hope yours is better!
