Cake Reccomendations?

Hi Ladies,

Does anyone have any recommendations for bakeries in the Akron/Canton area?  My reception is at Gervasi Vineyard in N. Canton, so I’d ideally like to find one nearby to avoid a huge delivery fee.  I already contacted West Side Bakery and was quoted almost $5 per serving for a fondant cake with no decoration (I want a super minimalist cake and will put fresh peonies on it for decoration).  I thought that was pretty high, but maybe I’m wrong.  Because our reception is outdoors in July I’m pretty much only looking into fondant due to the melting issues with buttercream.

Any suggestions would be great!  Also, has anyone used a grocery store bakery for their cake? (eg. West Side Market or Acme Fresh Market?) I was wondering if they might be a more economical choice since I’m looking for a really minimalist design.

I'm using West Side Bakery.  They are slightly more pricey compared to other area bakeries, but their cakes are delicious and beautiful, and I've been very pleased with their customer service so far.  We also used them for cupcakes for one of my showers -- very happy with them!  Fondant cake in general is more expensive than if you do not use fondant.
Another place to check out is Reeve's Bakery in Akron.  Their prices are slightly lower and they have open tasting days/events at their shop... google their website.

There is also Cakes by Christina.  She is located in Kent Oh.  I don't know what kink of delivery fee there would be, you would have to check that out.

I am using Baby Cakes cupcakes in Willoughby. They are delivering the cupcakes to my wedding in Canton for a small fee. They have the best cake I've tasted and I'm hard to please!

I am using White Flour Cake Shop, but they are out of Beachwood. $100 delivery to Green (I think??)

We used Giant Eagle (in Green) for our cake.  We got a small round cake for cutting (put up on a cake stand and decorated), then just had sheet cake in the back for serving to guests.  We picked it up the day before and put in the fridge at the reception hall though, so I don't know about delivery prices.

Reeves Cake shop in Akron was fabulous.  We used them for our June wedding and the cake was delicious and beautiful!!

I'm also going with Cakes by Christina.  The cake is amazing and so is the price!

Sugar Rush Bakery in Canton. Its a small bakery that does AMAZING cakes. and the price is right. I highly recommend.

I am also getting married in the North Canton area.  We wanted to do something different than the traditional cake.  I came across this place: creativebitesbakery.com.  They are located in Dennison, Ohio.  Teri met me halfway to deliver a free sample and the cake bites were AMAZING!  They have many different flavor combinations and she said that she could do some in our wedding colors.  Plus, the price isn't too shabby ($4 per dozen).  We are thinking of going with Giant Eagle or Fishers for a simple one or two tiered cake for us to cut.

I am getting married in North Canton and we went with Litty's from New Philia... They are super nice, very reasonably priced and their delivery fee is minimal! Their cakes are wonderful they are also making us about 14 dozen small cookies!
