Monday Blues...

I'm so sad today; one of my co-workers just received his "papers" and is being deployed to Afghanistan. I know, he signed up to do this and is trained, but I'm just sad. This is the first time that someone I know (personally) will be overseas fighting. On Saturday, the southwest side gathered to honor fallen soldier, Jared Stanker, who was killed in Afghanistan; he was 22 years old. There were thousands of people standing with their American flags to show their support; it was such a humbling and touching experience. Something I will never forget.God Bless our Troops!

I know how you feel. My cousin was recently deployed to Afghanistan. It's kind of crazy how the goverment is shifting the military around to have enough troops. My cousin was actually in the Navy Reserves, after many years of being active Navy, and now he's working in the Army. I think about him everyday and trust in his training and the support of his fellow soldiers. I think that it's something that you can't fully grasp until you have someone you truly care about putting themself in danger like that.

Sparkette - that's the same exact scenario for my co-worker. He's a Navy Reservist and will be deployed as Army. I just pray that he'll be safe and keep all of the things he's learned close in his mind.I will certainly keep your cousin in my prayers.

Thanks! I'll do the same. One thing that I feel that I can do for him from here is regular emails so that he knows someone other than his parents and brother are thinking about him and his team. It's not much but there's really not much else to do. I also plan on sending the guys a care package. My cousin said that they can't take much with them b/c they are always on the move, but he can fit cookies and magazines in their packs. So, I can handle that. =)
