Hiring a DJ...questions

So I'm trying to fully complete my wedding budget/timeline and I'm not really sure what to budget for a DJ. So two questions....1. About how much (or a range) do you think I should budget for this?2. How far in advance do you think a DJ needs to be booked in Chi?I used to not think the DJ was important until I went to a wedding with a VERY BAD DJ and changed my mind. We will probably have the DJ play for about 4 hours from the end of dinner-end of the night. TIA!

    1. this depends on your overall budget, of course. We were willing to pay more for a good DJ. Seems like the ones who at least advertise themselves as being not your typical DJ (toast and Jam, cage and aquarium, beep media, etc.) charge anywhere from 1100-1500 depending on the package.2. as far ahead as you can. They often have more than one DJ, but still best to stuff as early as you can.I know what you mean about bad DJs! My friend still talks about how horrid theirs was and how they wish they'd done it differently and their wedding was 2 years ago!

I already booked my dj and my wedding is in 2011!  As far as budget, reliability and great service I would definetly recommend Windy City Mix.  My sister used them last September and I will be using them for my wedding.  They were awesome!  I have absolutely never dealt with a nicer group of people...they are owner operated, meaning that the person you talk to is the actual dj, very experienced and stick with you from the date you sign the contract all the way up to your wedding date.  Very affordable too....i beleive they are running a special now for an ALL INCLUSIVE package for only $550 and includes microphones, bubble and fog machines, and a light show too....i would definetly at least give them a call or visit their website....good luck!www.windycitymix.com773-633-5884Milan-
