Invitation help

Hi ladies,
I mailed myself an invitation a couple of weeks ago and it came back looking awful!  I have some bling on the invites and the bling made holes on the envelope, I am sure it is from the machines... (see bio for invites).

Anyway, I am going to mail myself another one this week because my invites go out in less than 2 weeks.  I called the post office and they were super rude to me and basically told me I am screwed.  They said they haven't offered hand canceling since 2007... Well I know for a fact that some will do it.  I am going to check with the local hub this coming week, but any other suggestions to get these out to people looking a little better?  I do not have an inner envelope.

He also said even if they were hand canceled, they would still go through other machines.  Is that true?

Does anyone know of a post office in NW suburbs that will do it?  I know I asked that before, but thought I would see what advice you guys had to offer.

TIA.

Danielle

I have heard that too, that even if they hand cancel them once, they still go through other machines, not sure though. Can you put in like a small piece of paper to cover the front to protect it? You know sometimes cards come with those? Just an idea!

    Thanks ladies!
I think I am going to see if I add another piece of card stock if it will protect it or I am going to have to put them in the envelope differently.

I will go to the post office on Tuesday and ship out differently.

I went to the Lakeview post office today to get my invitation weighed and also asked about hand cancelling.  The guy quoted me some outrageous price ($20 per ENVELOPE!?!?!?) and didn't bat an eye.  I did a lot of searching online, and it sounds like it's really just up to the specific post office, but even if it does get hand cancelled, it will still go through many different sorting machines.

Just remember if you add another piece of cardstock, it may weigh more and up the price - so you may want to check the weight before you mail.

Mine are odd size (square) and supposedly non-machinable, according to the usps website.  Can't wait to see how they get handled...  I'm testing one tomorrow, just by putting it in the mailbox down the block.  He made it sound like it wouldn't be any different if I did it that way vs. taking it to the actual post office.  I figure it's the worse case scenario...

I had mine handstamped and they were fine. I too had some bling on mine. I did not have an inner envelope and they still were fine when handstamped.
