Grand Ballroom- Joliet Union Train Station

I am thinking of having my wedding here. I am looking to have a historic/vintage feel to my wedding?  Has anyone been here before? Do you have any gripes or major likes? There are not too many comments regarding this place on the internet.

Thanks!

  • I checked out this place for my vintage wedding too. We really liked the vintage vibe it gave. It is very affordable and the lady who runs it is nice. One of the main issues with the ballroom though is that it is like a fish bowl shape and sound doesn't travel well in it. So your DJ might have a really difficult time. Also, the view from the balcony is to a parking lot. But if you can get past that, it is a really cool place.
  • it's a nice looking place.  The dj/band has to REALLY know what they're doing to get it to sound right in there.  Otherwise, it will be horribly loud in some spots and too quiet in others.  Phil from Manna Music has done many weddings there.

We looked here for our vintage wedding as well. We needed to have ceremony in the same space, so the one room was an issue and an outdoor ceremony on the balacony looked odd to us. The sound was a huge issue. You definitely should hire a DJ that has worked there before and knows what to do. We also didn't like that the public/commuters could be looking in on our reception - made it feel less intimate and more like an attraction. We were close to booking and decided at the last minute that it just wasn't perfect for us.

I've never been there for a wedding, but a family member was and said it was very hard to hear conversations because of the weird acoustics. Otherwise she said it was a beautiful reception.

We had our wedding at the Patrick Haley Mansion nearby - very vintage feel, plenty of space, no sound issues. A little more pricey, but if you're willing to compromise on day of the week and time of year, then it's close to what the train station woul d have cost us.
