Congress Plaza Hotel

Hi guys,

I haven't been on this board for a long time, since we moved our wedding date to 3/23/13.  But now we are starting to look for the reception venue once again.  When I was looking at hotels in downtown, I came across Congress Plaza Hotel.  Originally, I had not considered them, becaue at the time I know they were having trouble and the strikes.  I haven't heard anything since then, but I am hesitant to look at this place because of that.  Does anybody know anything abou the hotel?  good or bad?

TIA!!

I'm not an expert on this but I do know they still have picketers out there every day.  From what I remember hearing, the hotel is in SERIOUS need of a renovation and the owners won't put the money into it.  I've never actually been in there but I wouldn't consider it.  It's such a shame since it's an older hotel that has a lot of history with the city.

Thanks Mind,  that's what I was thinking about if they were still there, before I used to pass by and see it but ever since I started working where I currently am, I don't go by there and I haven't heard anything in a while, so it made me wonder.  I wouldn't consider it either if they still are having so many problems and they can't seem to solve it.  That pretty much takes care of my decision.

    Thanks!

This is an older hotel and a lot of the reviews say it has ventilation problems but I am not sure if its true since I don't have any experience staying there or going to a wedding there.

I was recently at a wedding here and I was actually impressed.  The ballroom is gorgeous, the staff seemed very nice and helpful.  They had a great area for a cocktail reception if you didn't want your guests in the main ballroom right away.  Food was decent.  I didn't see any picketers when I was there, I had no idea that it was an issue!  No idea the costs, if they're not lower than other hotels, then I wouldn't go for it.  As a guest, I thought it was a nice spot.  The ballroom's decor was enough - you really didn't need anything much for the tables!

My now fiance took me there for anniversary  a few months ago(right before he proposed me) and we spent the night there, and well, even when the view was wonderful the hotel itself really need some renovation, looks old and the carpet is bad conditions. Also the staff wasn't that nice and actually at the door were some people on strike. So, i had to let you know before you sign in there.

I work/go to school next door to there at Roosevelt. The picketers aren't there everyday, but every once in awhile I can hear them. As for the hotel itself, I stayed there not too long ago and thought it was great. The room we stayed it was on the Michigan Ave side and the view was to die for. The room itself was really clean and the beds were insanely comfy. It is an old building, but I didn't notice that it looked run down at all. I thought it looked pretty nice actually...I've certainly been to MUCH worse.

I think your best bet would be to go there and check it out yourself since there seem to be some opposing views on the place. I do think it would be worth it to at least check it out.
