I think most of them did it a week before. We are ordering popcorn for our buffet the last week in June (like 10 days before the wedding) but the company we're ordering from (momandpopcorn.com) has stay fresh bags that are good for up to 2 weeks or something.
My cousin did that as her give aways as well. She bought the large cand and had people bag it themselves so they can get the flavor they want and nothing would go to waste.
I am going to do Garrett's for my wedding in September. I am having my wedding on a Monday, and I am planning on picking it up on Saturday after work. However, I am having a small wedding with a max of 50 people.
Penelope, I hope you don't mind me crashing on your post. I had the same question about Garrett's as well as one more, so I'm hoping it's okay to ask here while you asked.
I was also wondering if they will sell their tissue paper because we have these cute little buckets and we were thinking of filling them up with popcorn with the hopes of having their tissue paper/a sticker something informing them that it is Garrett's popcorn. Is this possible if you buy large supply of their popcorn or do they only sell it in bags/tubs??
I bagged them the Thursday before my Saturday wedding. Sure, I would have liked to do it earlier, but I wanted it to be as fresh as possible. It took about 3 hours.
I was hesistant about people bagging it themselves. It would have been a huge mess and even with scoops, it seemed kind of yucky to me. Also, most of our guests were big drinkers and I was worried about some people taking way too much and others not getting to enjoy the popcorn.
gorchosbrown- You can buy the huge 6.5 gallon tubs, which is about 104 cups of popcorn. You want at least 1.5-2 cups per person. They also sell the popcorn pre-bagged, but it is a huge rip-off for the price compared to the huge tubs, and that's the only way to get their bags with their logo/name. You can buy personalized stickers from them, but that's an extra cost. I just made a sign that said "Garrett's Popcorn," put in a silver frame, and that sat on the table with the favor. I also bought cute raffia ribbon in our wedding colors from ribbonretreat.com to tie around the bag.

I am thinking about this. I have a couple questions. What size bags are you using, how much did you buy and for how many people?
I bought bags from jo-ann fabrics. Clear plastic cellophane bags. I like them because they have a squared bottom and will stand up at each place setting.
I have not actually measured how much in each bag yet....I'm thinking probably about 1.5-2 cups.
I am going to start bagging on the wednesday night before the wedding, and will do 246 bags, since that is how many people will be at my wedding.
I'm going to start with a 6.5 gallon tin, and go from there.

so you are bagging it so each person gets one then?
You can buy the official Garretts Popcorn bags by contacting a Garrett Popcorn representative - just find their number or email on the website. I am ordering 150 Garrett Popcorn favor bags and it's costing $45.00. The salesperson is shipping it to the store to arrive that Thursday before my wedding on Saturday since I work nearby and I will pick it up there and purchase the tins of Chicago Mix popcorn from the store so it's fresh. For $150 favor bags, it's costing me a little under $300.
