Calligraphy Costs

I have an estimate for calligraphy (of outer envelopes only), and it seems a little steep to me.  Does anyone know what the average cost is for calligraphy per outer envelope?

Thanks!

I guess it really depends on the type calligraphy used.  I've been doing it for about 7 years and only know a few styles. I'm not a part of a guild so I typically charge about $1.50 for up to 75 envelope and less for more.

My brother on the other hand does about 15 different styles and charges much more.

I just found a great calligrapher on etsy.com.  I think she's a little below average.  The average prices I found online were over $3 which I thought was crazy - especially if you have over 100 invites.  I'm using Kelly Place and its working out quite well.

Try Calligraphy by Carolyn. She is $1.50 a set. I thought that was reasonable.

you know if you have a good computer and printer you can just do it yourself.  If you think about it how many wedding invites have you received where you judged the hand writing on the envelope?  you could save a lot of money just writing them yourself or printing them yourself.

Try A Fine Letter (www.afineletter.com); I think their prices are all around $1.00 or so per set.  Good luck!

I'm late to this thread, but I second afineletter.com.  They are affordable, fast and extremely helpful.  I only used their fine penmanship services due to budget, but I am more than thrilled with the finished product, and I have seen their many styles of calligraphy which were beautiful as well.

Try to contact Brooke at www.lovetmessenger.blogspot.com. She is budding - so her prices are reasonable!

I have been doing calligraphy and artistic writing for many years and am now wanting to change my profession to something I love!  That is working with others to give their event that special touch.  I focus on addressing invitations, place cards, table signs, etc.

I am currently developing my base of happy clients and am offering invitation addressing @ $1/address.  I look forward to hearing from you!

I had used Michele Clark for my wedding invitations.  I believe she now charges $1.15 per outer/return address/RSVP and .35 per inner/placecards.   The great thing about Michele is that she does not charge extra for different color ink or writing on Stardream stationery (many calligraphers do charge a premium)

Her work was lovely - she is based out of Staten Island can be reached via email or phone:  calligraphybymichele@verizon.net or 718.967.3559.  She also has a blog with samples of her work:

I had also found another calligrapher Carmela Mazzurulli, who will be doing some work for me (non-wedding related).  Her rates are even lower than Michele's!

Full set (inner and outer envelopes) - $1.00
    Outer only - $.80
Back flap return address - $.25
RSVP Full address on return envelopes - $.45
    Placecards (tent) - $.30
    Placecards (small envelope & card) - $.35
    Favor tags - $.25
Table numbers  - $.35 (one sided), $.50 (two sided)

You can reach Carmela (she is also based out of the east coast) at melsinkwell@comcast.net or via phone at 609.230.8429
