Honeymoon in Chicago?

I'm not sure if this belongs in this board, but I thought that you guys would be the most knowledgable. Anyways, my fiance is in the Army and we are getting married right before he goes to airborne school, which gives us 10 days together before he leaves. Origionally we were planning on going to Aruba for our honeymoon, however we found out that me might not have the full 10 days of leave and won't know for sure how long he'll be home until about a month before the wedding which makes it difficult for us to plan a honeymoon. He suggested going to the city for our honeymoon since it's so close and we don't have to worry about flights or anything. I was wondering if you had any ideas on things to do and affordable hotels in the city. We are already planning on going to a Hawks game and maybe visiting the aquarium but are looking for other fun things. Thanks a bunch!

I love the architecture tours on the river.  Sounds boring, but they are so great!  I grew up in the suburbs, and still learned so much when my FI and I went.  You can also do ones more in the evening that include drinks.

Try priceline for hotels.  Choose the highest amount of stars, and choose the area you want to stay and name your price.  A lot of the time you can get a GREAT weekend rate at the Hyatt Regency on Michigan Ave. because they have SO many rooms, and have a hard time selling them all out.

Have a drink at the Signature room.  Best view of the city is from the Women's restroom ;-)

I think a honeymoon in the city is a fantastic idea!!  My fi and I sometimes want to "get away" so we've stayed at several hotels downtown and acted like tourists the whole weekend -- so much fun!

Those are some great suggestions Penelope!  That's how we got our hotel a couple times -- through priceline!  Other times I just checked the actual websites like the Trump and Drake to see if they ran specials and booked accordingly.

Wonderful idea! Chicago is a really beautiful place and quite wonderful.  Hotwire is great for getting deals. I would suggest spending some more money though to stay downtown- either Michigan Avenue/ Loop/Museum Campus. Then you can walk anywhere and.or hop on a train. Do not stay at the airport- while there is a train, its just not the same.
Everything downtown is centrally located- you will have a wonderful time. Go to Lou Malnati's for pizza - skip the more touristy pizza joints

I just went on a Taste Bud Tour with some friends from out of town.  It was awesome...even for someone who is a Chicago native!  It takes you to all the Chicago hot food spots (pizza, hot dog, billy goat tavern and more). Its a lot of food, but also 3 and half hours of walking. You don't just go from restaurant to restaurant.  The tour guide had a ton of information to share and wasn't boring in the least!  We all had a blast!

I am from the area and we are starting our honeymoon in Chicago before we leave for the Dominican. We found a great rate by using the name your own price on a travel website (can't remember which, maybe priceline) we are staying in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area but there is also the option for naming your own price for downtown hotels as well. I lived in Chicago for 4 years and I would highly recommend visiting the neighborhoods and not spending the entire trip in the downtown area. There are some of the best restaurants and bars if you travel just a little north or west of downtown. I'd recommend visiting Lincoln Park/Lakeview you can't miss Wrigley Field they do daily tours of the park. Southport in Lakeview is a great area with so many cute shops and restaurants. Also, if you head a little west on Roscoe to Roscoe Village that is also a very cute area. I recommend Orange on Roscoe for brunch. If you like sushi Butterfly is a great place. I've only been to the one in the West Loop but I think a few more have opened.

Sign up for http://livingsocial.com/ and http://www.groupon.com/chicago/

They have really good deals (often 50% or more of the original price) for things to do in Chicago, for places like spas and restaurants.
