Honeymoon ideas in Chicago

Hello ladies,
I haven't been on theknot since I got married in 2008, so please forgive me if my etiquette is antiquated!

My brother is getting married in May and he and his new wife will be taking their honeymoon in Chicago in late May. DH and I would love to get them a gift that they can use/do on their honeymoon...so I turn to you all!

What would you recommend for them? Our budget for this is about $800 and we would love it to be something that they may not choose to pay for themselves. They love unique places, shows and foods, dig museums and artsy things and like history. I envision something "so awesome" they will never forget it. I hope that's doable with $800! Any ideas?
TIA!

Second City is a comedy show that's pretty good (and where several stars like Tina Fey got there start).  Tickets sell out, so I'd recommend to buy in advance.  Adoba Grill is a somewhat "upscale" Mexican restaurant next door that is delicious

CityPass (<link), is good for admission to several of the citie's attractions, like museums, Shedd Aquarium, John Hancock observatory, etc.

The Signature Room is a restaurant on the 96th flr of the Hancock building.  The food reviews are mixed; but H and I have ate there and thought it was worth it.  For salads, 2 entrees, one dessert and a bottle of wine, our bill was $220 (I can't remember if that included tip of not)

eta: Even if they decide not to eat there, I'd recommend they go to the Signature Lounge for some drinks and a view of the city!
  • Maybe get them a hotel reservation. H and I have used Hotwire a few times and stayed at the Hyatt Regency, Omni Ambassador and Hilton Suites all for around $75 a night with taxes (which is a really good price for the location and number of stars). I especially loved the Omni and Hilton since both were suites, so we had a ton of room.

  • Do you know what time of year they are going? You could buy them tickets to a show. Check out: http://broadwayinchicago.com/

  • Eat at Gejas Cafe. Its very romantic.

  • Are they foodies?  You could get them a reservation at Alinea or Next (Grant Achatz Restaurants).  It is a phenomenal dining experience and your budget would fit perfectly.

You get to choose a 12 or 24 course tasting menu and wine pairings.  Amazing.
  • Also go to the lily ponds/ the North Pond. they are beautiful to walk around.
