Gift for DJ

A friend of myself and my fiance is a well known DJ and singer in Chicago.  He will be doing our wedding on a Friday night (just DJ'ing) and is not charging us for his services.  We would like to compensate him for his time and lost revenue but I'm not sure how much.  I'm thinking $500 is that enough???

That sounds very generous!  Our DJ is also from the city, and she is charging $1300 for 6 hours.....I am assuming that your DJ friend is doing this as a personal favor/gift to you, so you don't want to "gift" him too much or else it defeats the purpose of his gifting you....if that made sense!

A generous cash gift such as that, with perhaps something of a personal nature, would be great.  If he is single, most guys are happy to accept food/baking gifts any time!

I think that is fair. Most wedding gifts are between $100-$300 per person so if his gift is DJ services, and you feel that you are getting more than a $300 service, a monetary gift of the difference of what you were planning to pay for a DJ is reasonable.
