Experience with Oak Mill Bakery?

It seems as if most couples in the Chicago area say they are going with Oak Mill Bakery. The things is, my family/friends have been going here ever since I can remember, and I want my cake to "wow" my guests.

Any comments?

Thanks !

Not really, but I'll be watching this thread with interest b/c that's who we will be getting our cake from through our venue.

Though I must say, we tried two samples of their cake at a wedding "showcase" at our venue a few weeks ago.  One was a chocolate that was tasty but too rich for me.  The other was white (or yellow, can't remember for sure) with passion fruit and raspberry filling.  OMG was it good--and I'm not a cake person!  Our DOC also commented that she likes them...

Interested to see what others have to say.

That's it!  Oak Mill Bakery - we were talking bakeries and I could not remember the name of the bakery Klein Creek got my wedding cake from.  It was absolutely delish!  I had so many comments from guests on the cake.  H and I were so busy talking to everyone at the reception that we never did sit down to eat.  After the cake came out and the obligatory pics were taken, one of my friends took me by the hand and said "Sit!  You have to taste this cake."  Mmmmm....to die for.

This is the place our venue recommended, the customer service for Niles, IL is pretty crappy so I plan on working with the Chicago office. I am hoping they can remake this cake I have in mind! :)

I have actually always been very unimpressed with Oak Mill Bakery.  I find their cakes dry and the flavors too artsy-for a wedding, basic flavors appeal to a wider crowd.  Their cakes are always way too rich.
    Reuters Bakery is way better.

We are using them through The Westin.  Went for a tasting in Nov.  So wonderful...I'm a sweets person, but don't like cake b/c of the too-sugary frosting, but this was incredible!  Groom chose a devil's food cake with fudge ganache filling, which sounds super-rich, but it's just wonderfully chocolate-y and not over the top.  The outside is white, so the inside will be a surprise:)

Honestly, I agree, but know tons of people who have had fantastic experiences with them. My MOH and I went to them when she was looking for a bakery for her wedding. They were pretty stand offish and rude, they charged her for the tasting, and the samples they offered were surprisingly dry and bland.

She ended up going to Domino's and had a great experience there.
