NWR: Rec your favorite bar

What's your favorite bar/pub/drinking establishment?

I live up in Evanston, but am downtown for work more than I am actually at home, so location isn't really a factor for me. I'm just looking for something new to try out.

Bonus points for places with awesome drink specials.

Double bonus points for Boystown recommendations because I always get intimidated walking down Halsted trying to find a good bar, so I usually just end up at the IHOP instead. And IHOP tastes so much better after a few drinks.

I'll start with an Evanston recommendation and hopefully I can get some love back?

Evanston (Davis stop off the Purple Line): Bat17 is a block north of the Davis L stop. $5 specialty cocktails on Saturday night. Awesome, awesome food, but no room for dancing. It's a deli/restaurant during the day and becomes a bar at 9pm, but the kitchen is open til last call.

    I love Pops for Champagne!
    I live in Evanston too and we like to go to Pete Millers up here, not a lot of options though around Evanston!

    I work in the Loop and I like the following places:

    -Midtown (pretty large, near the L)
    -Emerald Loop (I like their patio in the summer-it's good for people watching)
    -Flatwater (again, great patio and it's along the river)
    -Swirl Wine Bar (in River North on Hubbard--good food and happy hour menu)

    I lived near Boystown for the past year and I really didn't go to a lot of bars over there--I went to more places along Southport!

    Yah Southport- I love Schoolyard during the week, decent drink specials and great food specials.  On the weekends it's usually too crowded for my liking.

    Plus, I'm an Marquette alum, which makes me like it even more :O)

    I'm a Marquette alum too! I agree about Schoolyard during the week--way too crowded on the weekends!

    I don't live in Evanston, but The Celtic Knot near Chicago and Church is really good.  DH went there for his bachelor party.

    In Fine Spirits on Clark in Andersonville is a great bar- I went there for my bachelorette party and it's all small-batch liquors in really creative drinks.

    My favorite though, and it's kind of a splurge, is The Violet Hour on Damen.  It's an amazing experience.
