Save-the-Dates and Invitations..

I'm getting married in May of next year, and I'm not really sure when to send out our  save-the-dates. I don't want to send them out around the holiday season because I'm afraid they'll get lost in the shuffle of people's Christmas cards, etc... I feel like waiting until January is kind of late, because I want to make sure that those invited have plenty of notice. Is sending save-the-dates next month way too early? If so, when do you recommend I send them, and how long after should we send the formal invite?

I don't think that would be way too early.  I think they say to send the STDs around 6 months before, so you'd be right around there (one month won't make that much difference).  But, I think you'd be safe sending them at the beginning of December too, before people start sending xmas cards.

Everywhere I looked said to send the invitations out 6-8 wks before the wedding...we send our out 10 wks before and asked for the responses back 3 wks before, that worked out well for us!  Good luck!

We have the same wedding date :)  I sent mine out last week, so around the 7 1/2 month mark.  We do have a lot of out of town guests though.  But I've read that anywhere between 6-8 months is average.  I also didn't want the holidays to get in the way.

For the formal invites, we are sending out 8 weeks before the wedding date.

I'm getting married in July and mine are going in the mail this weekend. It's not too early!
Our invites are going in the mail 10 weeks before with a RSVP date of 4 weeks before. That way we have plenty of time to track down stragglers and do our seating arrangement.

My wedding is May 14th! A lot of ladies on the May 2011 board have sent theirs out--especially the ones getting married over Memorial Day weekend. I'm going to send mine out as soon as I get my epics back!
