STD Opinions Please! :)

Do you think that everyone does STD Magnets? I feel like everyone does them, but my mom said I only think that because I look at "those internet wedding sites".  What are alternatives to magents? I thought of doing a coaster or matchbook, but just don't know..... what do you think?

I feel like lots of people do them, which is part of the reason I didn't want to.  We did postcards through VistaPrint and sent them without envelopes.  The quantity we needed were free because of a VistaPrint sale (I ended up ordering more than I needed by mistake, and they were still only $30).  They came out great, survived the mail fine, and we spent less on mailing postcards than we would have magnets in envelopes.  Pic in planning bio, if you're interested.

I think that it is a some what common idea, however it's a great idea.

I like the idea that Ainslie used too. I think that if you're looking to cut down on the cost of postage, which can take a chunk out of your budget, postcards are a great idea...especially if you create a unique card!

I've received 5 STD magnets so far this year. I just throw them out because we have a stainless steel fridge, so I have nowhere to put them. I feel bad because I know how pricey they can be, but what a waste. I'd rather just receive a piece of paper or postcard

We also did free postcards through VistaPrint and everyone raved. PIB

We did the same as JBL and Ainslie--postcards through Vistaprint.  We didn't spend a lot of money and we received many compliments. PIB.

I am doing Save the Dates that have stickers that you can peel off that have our names/date on it to mark your calendar with.  I just got them in the mail the other day and they are SO nice.  I got them from www.savethedatestickers.com. The lady will customize anything for you for free.  I liked one of the snowflake designs but it didn't come in my color and she changed it for me.

Anyways, it wasn't that expensive and they are really nice/unique.  If you are interested in them, let me know because if I refer someone that person gets 5% off and I get 5% back on my purchase :)

Agree with PP, Magnets are cute, but most people won't use them.. I also have a stainless fridge and cant stick it there so usually just write the date down then toss them

I think the postcard idea is cute, and magnets aren't too bad (but expensive I think)

I think coasters or matchbooks would be a big waste of money.  Sorry, JMO.

I actually didn't end up doing Save-the Dates and I've had no issues  so I wouldn't spend too much money or energy into them.  Good luck!

I love my magnets! I wanted them so that's what i did.  I have  gotten postcards and notecards from friends and those are great too, I say do what you want and don't let anyone push you to do something that you don't want.

Magnets are cute--I've received a bunch, but we're going to do postcards like pp's.  If you're looking for other ideas, the DIY board is chock full of them :)

    Hi Ladies,
I was just visiting and saw this.  I agree that many do the magnets.  We did the postcards and mailed them without envelopes too.  I really like them because they were different.

We did magnets and everyone put them on their refrigerator.  With today's technology standard, if you don't send an Evite, they aren't going to remember and will most likely lose the invitation in the shuffle of junk mail.  At least with that they have the date in plain view.

Almost everyone has said to me "I see your faces every morning!" or "You're on my refrigerator!"  It's funny to go to their houses and see your magnet on their fridge.  Ours were 3X3, so not too big.
