• Eagle Ridge in Galena is really nice. There are many shops and restaurants in town. Lake Carroll is also in that area and is a really pretty area. I'm not sure if they have cottages available for rent, though.
• I know Galena has winery places and has a big wine tasting weekend thing coming up. Check that area out!

Yep; it's about 2hr45min west of Chicago. We went there for NYE and had a great time. I'm not sure about rental properties there; but I think it would be fun for a girls wknd! If you go, eat at Fried Green Tomatoes; delicious!

We stayed at the DeSoto Hotel downtown; which is nice because you wouldn't need to drive anywhere then.
• Thanks! =) I will look into it! any suggestions on fun bars?

We were at Benjamins at midnight; it was a mixed crowd. It kind of was like a towny bar, but there were girls in their mid 20's in heels dancing too. I believe there are wineyards near by you could do a tour of. There's a winery in town than has a bar/samples.

One eleven main was also a bit more upscale for food and bar: http://www.oneelevenmain.com/
