Mary Catomy booked the rest of the year, any other ideas?

So apparently the seamstress Mary Catomy is booked up the rest of the year (July through October when I'd need her). She said a lot of people were coming in and saying "my friend will be getting married sometime this year will you take her name" and apparently she took the names, which is pretty sh*tty in my opinion, especially for those of us that have the dates and everything down and call ourselves, but whatever.

Anyway, I haven't heard about any other seamstresses that do a bang-up job for a good price. Admittedly, I didn't think I would need to worry about it I figured 8 months ahead would be enough time. Is there anyone else out there that's really good that you would recommend? This is one part of the wedding that makes me especially nervous, I don't want to be overcharged.

I know it's dumb but I can't believe how upset  I am right now lol

I know it sucks, but it's not like it was unethical.  She doesn't take deposits to "lock in a date" so really, it was a first come, first serve. Plus, if you look on this board, you should know that Mary is booked always way in advance. I would not let that bother me.

My friends have using the seamtress from Kasia's Bridal (in Irving Park I believe) and they have said some great things.  I know my mom has met the older Polish woman who worked there and was impressed.  I would check there.  Good luck!  Everything will work out

I am planning on using Sue's Alterations in Naperville, who people on the board have recommended. You can find her on Yelp.

I'm using Cori of Stitch of Bliss. I think others were discouraged to use her because she was't responding immediately to their calls, emails, and I also experienced this, but she was recommended when I first started posting.

I am also using Sue's Alterations in Naperville. She's got fantastic reviews.

I am one of the people that didn't have a great response time from Stitch of Bliss and decided to use Sue just because it's my dress and what if I don't get a response about it and then I have no dress. I'm paranoid!

    Thanks everyone :)

I haven't been active on here so didn't know how popular Mary is, she was recommended to me by someone. I looked on here and said, oh that explains it...lol

I have a list of prerferred vendors from the dress shop as they do not do that stuff in house. I'll look and see if anyone here has used them but only a few of them sounded familiar.

Also, I live by O'Hare and will be moving to my FI's place soon and he is way up by Wisconsin, so unfortunately anything in the Western or Southern Suburbs is too far :( thanks for the suggestions though!

Its a little bit of a drive but I used "Stitch N Time Bridal Boutique and Alterations" in Woodstock IL. She was amazing for the price.

For $200 I had (done in 3 weeks, would have been less but I got new shoes)
Boobs let out, take out zipper, put in corset back, create a sash for corset, hem, provided a better dress bag (pink!) lol.

Because she is a small shop she is willing to make deals on accessories sometimes. I managed to get a 250 dollar Forever Yours encrusted/beaded sash for 125 since it had been on the shelf for a while. She doesnt quote over the phone much because she has to see the dress to know specifically how she will be doing it.

She will start to get busy soon for prom, so book now.

I'm using Vicki of Vicki's Bridal (www.vickisbridal.com). So far she has been amazing.  My wedding is next week so i don't have the final product yet, but she's been great with communication, timing, etc.
  • I booked Mary for fittings for my bridal gown for my wedding that was on May 12, 2012. Mary was such a kind and wonderful person. She definitely knows what she is doing and is very flexible! Mary did an amazing job on my wedding gown, my mom's mother of the bride dress, and the bridesmaid dresses! She played a very special role in making my day so special! Thank you so much, Mary, for all the work you put into my wedding dress! It fit like a glove and everyone loved it!
