Can I get away with just a seating chart?

I do not want to make (or buy) escort cards and was always planning on just doing a seating chart. HOWEVER I am offering a choice of a chicken plate or a veggie plate. Can I still just assign people to tables and let the caterer/hall know how many veggie plates are at each table?

Technically, yes, you can. Vegetarians will speak up and let the servers know which dish they need. But in all honestly, I wouldn't skip them if I were you. If you're doing seating in general, do cards. Buy a bunch of plain ones for $10 from Michaels and get one of your family members or friends who has beautiful handwriting to write them out. Easy and cheap.

If you aren't going to do escort cards, how will the guests know which table they will be at?  I don't think you need to do place cards, but escort cards would make it easier for your guests to get seated.

I agree with PPs. I think you should do escort cards.

I made my own escort cards using cardstock and my color printer. I found a template online. It was fairly easy and cost effective.

We would do a seating chart so they would still have a table assignment, but not a seat assignment :)

<div>If you are doing a seating chart, I think you can easily get away with not doing escort cards.  That seems redundant to me.  The banquet staff will appreciate knowing in advance which tables have special meals/vegetarians instead of relying on the guests identifying themselves.</div>
