Want To Get Married In A Church But Do Not Belong To One...

Does anyone know of any churches in the Chicago Area that are willing to marry a couple without being an actual member of the Church? I wouldnt mind becomming a member but some places that we have looked into expect us to go to Paris & back in order to hold our cereomy at the Church. Any suggestions?

i was running into this same problem.  do your parents belong to a church? that church may then allow you to get married there as long as you join as well.  a lot of the big name's - old saint pats, etc not only make you go to the moon and back but they want $800-$1500 to get married there.

otherwise you may have to join a church on your own and then ensure the wedding date is free throughout the whole initiation process.

St.Hyacinth Basilica will let you get married there as long as you have had your sacraments I believe (Christening, Comminion, Confirmation)

Besides Old St. Pat's, I know that Assumption in River North, St. Michael's in Old Town, Notre Dame de Chicago by UIC, and Holy Family by St. Ignatius High School will all let you get married there without being a parishioner as long as at least one of you is Catholic and have had all your sacraments.

I had the same problem as you do and really struggled with what to do.  We ended up selecting Assumption as our church and are really happy with it so far.  Just as a heads up, I think both St. Michael's and Notre Dame look like beautiful churches but I don't think either of them have air conditioning, which was a big problem for us and our August wedding.

St. Clement, where we are getting married, requires you to become a member, which you can do online and is free. I called Gael, the wedding coordinator, and she verified my date was free before we joined. We have had a great experience there and enjoy being members now.

my fiance and I are practicing catholics and were baptized but we reside in California and getting married in Chicago. We were referred to Notre Dame De CHicago in University Village. They are one of the few Catholic Cathedrals in Chicago that allow non-parishoners to wed there. At least one of you needs to be a baptized Catholic. They have been super nice to us since we booked our Church, and Fr. Andre is very down to earth and funny. Beautiful Church, its breathtaking when you see it inside!!

I know of a few in the burbs, would you be willing to go out NW Suburbs? There is a very nice one in Glenview, part of The Glen...

In the NW burbs, you can try St. Raymond's in Mt. Prospect. I don't think you have to be a parishioner there.
