Alterations Shock- Is $400+ Normal?

Hey Ladies,

So I know lots of girls have the 'alterations cost how much?!' shock, but I honestly didn't think it would be this bad.

Originally when I bought my dress, I was quoted $256 for a hem, french bustle, and taking in the straps a bit. The salon gave me a $100 gift certificate when I bought my dress so I decided to have the alterations done at the salon rather than contacting Mary Catomy/Sue, or the other recs for independent seamstresses.

At my first fitting this weekend, I was told alterations would be a whopping $464!! I understand with a lace dress things cost a little more, but is this what a lot of you have seen for similar alterations?

Thanks for the input! :)

That seems a bit much...mine was $250 with Mary Catomy.  I bought a sample sale lace dress at a size 10 (street size 2) so there was a lot to be taken in and she added a french bustle and made the neckline sweetheart.

That seems like a lot to me!  Mary Catomy quoted me $160 for taking in the straps, bustle, bra cups, and sewing my slip into my dress.

I think I paid like $150 for my bustle and taking in my dress a size.

Mary Catomy did my alterations as well.

My alterations were $260, for taking in an inch, bustle, and hem...
