Star Plus DJs? Anyone familiar?

Anyone familiar with Star Plus DJs agency out of Hoffman Estates? If so, what is your recommendation for them? The owner DJ is James Coffman. I'm considering hiring them, but cannot find any reviews anywhere. They are running an awesome promo right now.

Thank you!

I assume you are looking at the groupon which gets you a wedding DJ for $300.

My coworker forwarded that to me and I was kind of suspicious. I mean, do you really want a DJ that has to advertise through groupon to get customers? That seemed like a red flag for me.

I have no idea about them though. They may be awesome and I just have on my judgy pants today.

There are lots of crooked vendors out there, beware.

I am not commenting on them in particular, I've never heard of them,

but having been ripped off by 2 vendors to save a buck, I learned my lesson.

I was wondering the same thing. They're not showing up anywhere I search. Angie's List or Yelp. Not even a general Google search turns up anything...

I used them last month for my wedding. I asked the same question when I booked and they told me that they were new online.

I was a bit worried but went ahead and booked them. I had James as my DJ and he did an outstanding job I couldn't have asked for a better time. He played all the music we requested and was very helpful.

I had Star Plus DJs at my wedding and the DJ did an excellent job!  My wife and I was very pleased, expecially me.  She told me about this company and the $300 groupon deal.  I told her not to do it, but she went ahead and did it anyway.  I am glad she did, it did save us a lot of money compared to other DJs out there.  Would recommend them to anyone.

I'm so sorry that he didn't show up, that's horrible!

When we were considering hiring him he gave us a 3 or 4 references, but we couldn't reach ANY of them for a feedback. And one of them was hearing impaired (as we when we called their phone number). Bizzare, huh?

I hope you can get your money back and more for the emotional damages!

I was booked as contract labor by James Coffman/Star Plus at the last minute to do a graduation party. He told me someone would be there with my full payment. After traveling 3 hours round-trip, setting up my professional sound and light show, and performing a 5 hour show for 12 people, no one showed up to pay me. When I e-mailed him about it, he gave me the proverbial "check is in the mail" story. Needless to say, I never saw the payment. This is another case where the poor family involved nearly didn't have their DJ show up, because James booked me at 2pm to do a party at 6pm that same night! Yikes.

I booked them through groupon and I'm having SO many problems trying to even locate James Coffman. He didn't give out his cell number, and stood us up for our first meeting, we waited in excess of 40 minutes for him asking complete strangers if they were from Star Plus. If what the negative reviews say are true I am in deep trouble, and need to find another DJ pronto. I can't believe this company has such little regard for customer service and I'm deeply disappointed Groupon, who is supposed to be reputable, touted this company's deals. I hope this works out and I will let you know either way.

Maybe you should contact Groupon and ask for your money back if you bought it through them??

    They are crooks.
I signed with them early because they gave a great deal.  As soon as I paid in pull they were like a ghost. I have many emails asking them when and where whill i hear from the DJ and no response.  I have hrs of calls to James and everyone in his company.  He then keeps charging my credit card and then returning it.  Then asked for a check. I sent that and as soon as he got it my card was charged again.  I then finally got a hold of him and he told me he was going to ripup the check since the card was charged again.  For two weeks before my wedding I did not get a call or an email to state that there was a dj and i finally got a cal from the dj 1 day before my wedding. During our wedding the dy would not listen to my wife and slow down the music at points for the older people and he did not even play the few songs that were on the must play list. I asked him to play beautiul tonight by Eric clapton and he did not even know who i was talking about.  All in all it was a horrible experence and again they are theives.  NEVER USE THEM!!!!!

Can you give some details on how you proceeded with charges against James/Star Plus DJs? He also did not show up at our wedding and we would like to get our money back. Thank you!

They are crooks, I agree! I booked with Star Plus DJs/James and he did not show up at our wedding after reassuring me 2 days before he would be there with everything. Luckily, I booked through Groupon and got our money back and gave them a piece of my mind for supporting such a terrible business.
