I've been gathering info on that as well for after I'm married in 10 days.  So you already got your certified copy of the marriage license that was sent in by your officiant?  If so, from what I understand, social security is the first step.  You have to fill out their form for a name change and submit along with marriage license.  (When you applied for your marriage license the Clerk's office probably gave you a copy of the SS form).  Then you'll probably need another copy of the license to submit to DMV for a change of driver's license.  The other important place would be to inform your employer for payroll purposes.  There's an article on The Knot entitled "How to Change Your Name After Marriage" that might be helpful too.  I'm planning to get several copies of the marriage license (I believe it's $15 for initial copy, $4 for subsequent copies) to cover any unexpected needs.

I am in the middle of this process right now.
I started by getting 3 copies of my marriage license just in case I need them.
I went to Social Security after that
    DMV comes next
After that, do all of you financial things (bank, credit cards, car loan, mortgage)
    Tell your employer
    Change insurance
    Update your passport
Don't forget about things like your CTA card, IPASS, Amazon.com, Frequent Flier programs, Library card, Paypal.

Girls-how did you order extra copies of your marriage certificate? DH just dropped off our license off and I assume they are going to send us the certificate in the mail in a couple weeks. Do I have to wait til it comes and then order more? Do I need to go back to the clerks office? Help!

Our officiant is mailing in  the signed license after the wedding but still, I'm told by the clerk's office that they don't mail you a copy; you have to go in person and pay $15 for a certified copy and I believe $4 for each copy thereafter.  Get yourself at least 2 more, maybe three as at least SS and DMV will require certified copies.  Should be ready about 10 days after license is sent in.
