plus size bride to be in need of help!

Does anyone on this board know of any shops that carry plus size samples? I know DB has a line but they are very hit and miss on stock store to store. I feel like I've made 50 calls to different shops and keep getting told they have a 10 or 12 at the largest. TIA

House of Brides!! I don't know where you live, but don't go to the Schaumburg one, go to Aurora. It is worth the trip I promise! They are very nice and they have the best and largest plus size selection around. I have a friend who works there and she has told me that people drive out of state to them for their plus size selection. I think it's very sad that nobody carries plus sizes. You should go there! Ask for Ashley Taylor!

I had a good experience at House of Brides Schaumburg.  My consultant at the Schaumburg store is Linda C.  She went above and beyond to help me out with a bridesmaid who was out of state.

I had the same problem! I found the perfect dress at "here comes the bride" in Addison IL. The dress I got was from Mori Lee. They are very helpful and there was a lot to try on! Good luck!

They had a great selection at Eva's in Oak Lawn.  I know some people have said they have had horrible experiences there, but I am no problems and got the dress of my dreams!

Don't go to house of brides in aurora! I had the worst experience. I'm a 20W and the sales consultant basically looked at me like I was dirt. She took me, my mom, and my sister to the one plus size rack in the store and had us get dresses and then took us to my room. Then she left without a word. The skinny brides got plenty of help, but my consultant never came back. After trying on 4 dresses (about 20 minutes) we left. Here's the list of places I compiled when I ws getting ready to go dress shopping. They all had plus size samples as of June and both of the David's Bridals actually had very extensive plus size sections. I hope it helps and good luck!

I agree with kag about HOB in Aurora.  We went there to look at BM dresses (3 of my 4 BM are plus size) and they had the worst selection for plus brides!  The problem wasn't that we wouldn't have been able to get them in plus size, but they didn't have plus size samples to try on!  My "smallest" BM there was an 18 so she got stuck trying on most of the dresses because she could at least get a 12 or 14 over her hips.  The other 2 BM got to try on maybe 2 or 3 dresses each.  Otherwise, they just stood there and watched and then tried to decide if the design would look good on them or not.  After we were shown a rooming, the consultant only stopped by once.  Otherwise, we were on our own.

Now for me, I too am a plus size so I can relate.  I did try on dresses at White Satin Bridal in Plainfield, Bella Bridal in St. Charles and David's Bridal on Elston in Chicago.  All 3 were actually nice experiences and each had plus sizes that I could try on.  I ended up going to Kathryn's in McHenry and highly recommend it. They had a very nice selection of dresses in sizes 14 up to 26.

I had a good experience at House of Brides Schaumburg too actually.  I went to the Oak Lawn store and they had 1 dress in the ENTIRE store in my size.  They told me the Schaumburg store has a sorta Plus Size Boutique and carry a larger selection.

The Schaumburg Store had 3 long racks of dresses in sizes 14-28.  Sure they arent going to have every dress in your exact size...but enough to where you can get into the dress and clip it, or cinch it.  The 1st time I went in I tried on maybe 10 dresses and picked my dress.

The dress came in about 7 weeks-ish.  I went in, tried it on and voila it fit like a glove...I will only have to have a bussle put on and the chest altered just a bit.

Davids bridal had more gowns then they are telling you.  I thought they had a decent selection too.  I tried maybe 6 gowns on there too.

Evas in Oak Lawn...I agree, they had a pretty good selection there too...I tired maybe 6 dresses on there too.  I found a dress at Evas in Oak Lawn.  HOB in Schaumburg AND Davids Bridal that all would have worked for me

If your looking for a dress in your EXACT size there might not be more then like 3 or 4 in each store, but you get a really good idea of what its going to look like for you if you are trying a dress on in the size below and size above what you would normally wear.

i got my size 20 dress at the david's bridal in aurora.

the consultant, Alice, that i worked with was WONDERFUL!

i went there on a whim, the day before my mom was having surgery, because i wanted her there the first time i went looking and we didn't know what the recovery from the surgery would be like (she's fine, thank goodness!).  we went on July 5 without an appointment.

Alice was amazing!  i tried on at least 7 dresses, and there were plenty more options that i just didn't want to try.

the second time i tried on dresses was at Kleinfelds here in NYC.  the consultant didn't even compare!

i went back and bought my dress from alice the friday before labor day.  it came in last week!  the only problem is it's there and i'm here so i haven't seen it yet...i have to wait until we go back fo rthe shower next month!
