POLL: The "DO NOT PLAY List"

Hey Girls, please let me know some of the songs that are on your DO NOT PLAY list.

Here's my definite No No's:
- Macarena
- Hokey Pokey
- Chicken Dance

I won't eliminate the YMCA or the Electric Slide; I want to also appeal to the older generation people that will be there (my parents, aunts/uncles, etc.)...if it's all the new hits, they won't know how to dance to it.

My DJ (Spencer from Style Matters DJs) is fabulous and knows how/when to change the music up...and I trust him 100%! He gave me a sample CD of how the night progresses and it's perfect! He doesn't play the real, booty-shakin' hits until later in the night, which is definitely appropriate, at least for our wedding.

TIA!

I'm using Toast & Jam for my wedding and they have a pretty good "Stale" list.  Hope this helps!

    This is mine:
Anything that has a group dance
    Anything pop-country
    YMCA
    Electric Slide
    Chicken Dance
    Hokey Pokey
    Baby Got Back

Although I'm not really worried because the DJ is a college friend who mostly spins at bars, I doubt he even has most of these songs available! I'm excited that he will be spinning vinyl as well as playing mp3s.

I'm boycotting anything by Lady Gaga, I just can't handle her!  lol  Also banning Love Shack.  There are more, but these I'm most passionate about.

Lindz, I agree...I totally trust Spencer, and really can't see him busting out "Baby Got Back" unless we request to hear it. LOL.

And, I agree with you JessNLane, I agree with you about keeping things PG until later in the night. The nice thing is Spencer doesn't have any explicit lyrics in his music, which is nice. I would really feel uncomfortable dancing to the Ayo Technology explicit version around my family. AWKWARD! LOL.

I posted this on my FB yesterday and got TONS of good ideas...I'ave had 40+ comments, so it's been fun to see! Here's some of what i was told:

    - Michael Bolton
    - Michael Franti w/Spearhead - Say Hey!!! (the new macarena)
    - Boy George
    - Lil Wayne (I cannot stand him, so it's perfect)

OMG, I HATE HATE HATE that song (Love Shack)! Thank you for that reminder!

I'm obsessed with Lady GaGa, so I'll definitely be playing her. She was actually super popular in Australia prior to the US so it reminds me of my wonderful days in Oz.

Some people are also banning Chris Brown's "Forever" and it's understandable; however, I heard that song before it was ever on the radio and absolutely LOVE it. The night my FI and I got engaged, when we went home, we poured some champagne, turned on some music and that song was just starting. HOW APPROPRIATE! So, we danced together...and it was just he and I on the dance floor. Okay, Okay, cheesy, I know, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. :)

Mark's a music producer as well on the side, so he's going to mix the song in a cool way for our intro...so it will be the beginning of the song, (just the instrumental part) and then go right into "I've been waitin' my whooole life, for this onnnnnne night"....awe, that makes me so excited!!!

Here is what I have, but I have a feeling I'm going to get veto'd on MANY of these songs by my FI.  Overall I don't want anything that has been beaten into the ground by the radio  - ie Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift.

I'm also using Style Matters and am meeting with our DJ Dustin next Monday (Spencer couldn't make is since he's spinning in Philly on NYE).  Very excited nonetheless!

    Baby Got Back
    Celebration
    Cha-Cha Slide
    Chicken Dance
    Electric Slide
    Everybody Have Fun Tonight
    Four minutes
    Hokey Pokey
    Hot Hot Hot
    I Will Survive
    Jack & Diane
    Jesse's Girl
    Last Dance
    Livin on a Prayer
    Love Shack
    Macarena
    Pour Some Sugar on Me
    Sexyback
    Shout
    Sweet Caroline
    That's Amore
    We are family

We have several of the above mentioned songs on our Do Not Play List.  We also told our DJ that he is not to play anything that would cause the Conga to ensue.  I HATE when it comes on at weddings, and a few people are into it and try to drag others into it, the line crashes into people who want nothing to do with it...it's just awkward.

This list is really helpful. Like most of the others, our list is:

    We are Family
    Celebration
    YMCA
8675309 - I heard that at a wedding once and it cleared the floor
    Love Shack
    Grease Medley
    Casper Slide
And to agree with PP anything that makes some sort of train/conga line begin

I think we ended up with only two "do not play" songs:
Cha Cha Slide (I have a severe dislike for it) and
Piano Man (Good song, but I felt the time could be better spent on other songs)

We really trusted our DJ and he did a great job.

I always have a feeling it will be a good dj or not if he/she starts with: We are Family
and Celebration.  The past 2 we'd been two started exactly with these two songs and they stunk.

Here are my other do not play list:
    Electric Slide
    Macarena
    Conga Line stuff
Love Shack/Rock Lobster (B52's in general are super annoying)
I will survive (Love the song but def not appropriate at a wedding)
    Grease remix
    Shout
    Blister in the Sun
Footloose (for some reason I don't think there is ever a good way to dance to this song)

    Hokey Pokey
    Macarena
You Were Born an @sshole (Jimmy Buffet)

My family and FI's family are huge Buffet fans. It's a funny song, but I have some family members that totally lack tact and grace...so sad but embarrassing to admit.

I am loving how diverse some of these lists are getting! I guess it really depends on the crowd.

Michelle, FI is also banning Lady Gaga! I love her, but FI refuses to dance to her music. Our compromise is to have one or two songs, but he gets to use that time to visit with guests who aren't dancing.

Edwina, a bunch of your songs are on my MUST play list LOL.

We picked out 200 songs he could play, any requests had to be cleared by us. He came to us once with a country song request, I think I said no but I was so busy talking, he might of played it.

Can you believe that my DJ site actually had "Sexual Healing" and "The Humpty Dance" on their lists of most requested party songs?!  I definitely put those on the DO NOT play list!

Our DJ had a pretty extensive list of DNP that we went off of, and added a few. Mostly, I said absolutely under no circumstances was Rhianna allowed to be played, nor any songs where she's a featured vocalist. Cannot. stand. her!

She played two Lady Gaga songs, so that made me happy. I love her. =)

She played "Suavamente" which was a request by me (I love merengue/salsa), but some of DHs family made a conga line which was TOTALLY not the point, but they're kinda cheeseballs like that. =)
