I am using Edward Fox too!  Prices are great - and after we booked it we were looking at both of our parents and my grandparents, and they were all done by Edward Fox!

Kyle Murphy Photography - he is doing my LO's portrait and birthday party.  Very reasonable ala carte pricing.

    OP,

Just be aware that a few of the photographers mentioned here are not near the $1000 price budget. I have emailed Timothy Whaley and he told me his packages were not in the $1000 range. Also, after emailing Fred Fox, if you are looking for more than 4 hours of coverage, he is out, too.

I've met with a few photographers off of Craigslist, and I've found good results. You have to be VERY picky and ask the right questions, but I think its possibly to find an excellent, unknown photographer at a great price.

GL with your search! My photography budget is no more than $1000 as well, as I found a lot of the photographers suggested here are waayyyyy over that price.

Rob Weber, the owner, is a personal friend and business associate.  I've worked commercially with him for about 20 years...yes, i'm giving away my age :)  he will now be doing my wedding photography as well...he does this of his buisness with his daughter.  they are compeltely delightful, funny and totally on top of things....highly recommend them!

I hate to say this again on this same post, but I just emailed Rob from eLations, and was told that he could in no way meet a $1000 budget. In fact, he said "nor could any professional photographer".

I'm sorry I'm getting a little irritated, esp. since I wasn't even the first poster, but it is very disappointing when asking for advice from local girls and posting a budget, yet receiving suggestions that aren't anywhere NEAR the budget posted.

This person is just starting out. She is very nice, and her prices are really cheap. We deiced to splurge on photography and really get super high quality photos, so we're going with Kara Schultz. .. . that being said, this woman (link below) seems to have a decent amount of talent and was willing to bend over backwards for us. Something like 8-10 hours for $600. I talked to her in January or February, so I don't know if her prices have gone up.
Hope this helps. Also. . . rdennis, if you are irritated with our suggestions, do some research of your own.

CS, trust me, I have-- I've given some suggestions to the OP via private message as well.

I'm just saying... if the poster says "My budget is 1000", it's disappointing and kind of rude to suggest your photographer for whom you're paying hundreds or thousands more, you know? OP (and myself when I posted similarly weeks ago) mentioned the budget because that's what we've got for photography. I'm sure the photographers mentioned are fabulous... but if they're way over the budget mentioned, why bring them up?

I inquired about a month ago with Mandy Solner who owns Love Above Photography. From the look of her blog she's just starting out but has shot with some amazing local photographers to learn. We're talking photographers who would charge $2500++ She seemed super sweet when I spoke with her.

She sent me her priicing and she has 2 packages at $1000 and under.

Her pricing (Scroll towards the bottom for smaller packages)

Thanks so much for the suggestions!
Rdennis - I am totally with you on the budget...I am stressing majorly because of it!!!  If you wanna message me and maybe we can compare notes and help each other out?
I did talk to Timothy Whaley, and was willing to go above my budget a little, but then he started starting bad about other companies that have lower prices (IMO, VERY unprofessional).

Currie, I agree-- I had emailed eLations at the above poster's suggestion (right away b/c I'm still searching for my photographer!), and I had the same response... no way will I find a professional in my budget. Very disheartening.

I had private messaged you a list of people I've found so far-- let me know if you didn't get it, and I can send it again. I haven't spoken in person with anyone yet (just over the phone), but based on the example pictures on their websites, I am hopeful!

    =)

I would also recommend Kathleen Thame. On her site, she lists weddings start at $1095. So yes, over $1000, but like @mroth said she's a former Knottie and might offer you a discount.

I would be very careful about trying to bargain w/the larger studios like TW and Edward Fox. They may give you a "bargain" price, but it won't include the pictures or rights to print that other photographers offer.

We seriously looked at using Clint Wolf (found him on Cragislist), but only changed out minds because we wanted an album included in our package.  His price was $800 or $900 for pretty much the whole day.  You can see his online gallery here:

I am having the same problem.  But I found one that has a few packages under$1,000 and they have had great reviews from everyone so far.  I haven't met with them yet though... Jolie Images....they have a vendor profile on the knot under photographers.  Let me know if it works out.

Hi! Very excited to check out these ideas, I'm looking for something similar. We met with a photographer at prairie productions in the west loop when checking out the venue. If you google the venue his info comes up. We are looking elsewhere bc we didn't love the venue, and honestly we just didn't click with him. But, his package is $1500 including all images on DVD and even a photo booth at the reception which we thought was cool. His portfolio was really good, he just seemed a bit temperamental to us. He's a fashion photographer and does weddings for fun when he feels like it, at least that's how we understood him. Anyway, his work is good and if you hit it off it seems like a great value for high quality fashion photos! It's a bit over your budget but still in the ballpark hopefully! Good luck!
