Knottie meet-ups?

I'm not usually on this board because I'm getting married back in my hometown- but I live in Chicago and I'm looking to make some new friends :)

Are there ever any knottie meet-ups? I'm not a knottie much longer...but the nest for Chicago doesn't look too active.

Thanks!

We've had get to gethers (GTG's) in the past. I think the last one didn't work out. When I first got engaged there were lots of Knotties that met up regularly.

You should just propose one :)

Yeah, the last 2 or 3 sort of just didn't happen. I got married in my hometown also, but also live in Chicago, so I feel yeah! I posted mostly on my hometome knot board, and would go to GTGs when if I happened to be in town, since I "knew" those ladies better. I too would like to get more GTGs going here in Chicago, even though I'm technically a "nestie" now too!

Ditto Bimbi and you OP.  I wasn't married here but live here.  I proposed a GTG a while ago (I think May) but it just didn't work out.

I'm on TN also, although Chicago board is dead, there is a monthly brunch and also bookclub (they alternate months).

I'd be interested in meeting some new ladies too!  Especially since one of my current "Chicago friends" is moving back to our hometown at the end of the month :O(

So, when should we GTG and where?!

I'm glad to see people are interested. Let's see if it actually works out this time!

We have to figure out when is a good time for people...I work outside the city so I usually don't get home until later in the evenings. So weekends are better for me.  And maybe doing drinks and apps rather than a sit down meal is better because then people can come and go as fits their schedule.

HZ I see that you are running the marathon! So exciting...if you want to do it for a charity I can get you information on that :)  (I work for a nonprofit)

I live in the burbs but going to the city isn't a problem. Weekends would be better for me too since I live and work in the burbs it would take me forever to get down there with rush hour. I don't work Fridays though so Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays would be good. I think drinks and apps somewhere sounds like a good idea.

I'm up for weekends too!! I currently live in Wrigleyville, but am close to CTA so can get pretty much anywhere.

Well I'm not really a foodie or anything...and actually I haven't gotten to go to many restaurants in the area since my job has kept me so busy...

So anyone that's been out a little more have any suggestions of places to go?

Or would a tapas place be fun? I've never been but I've always wanted to try!

We ate there last month when my parents visited.  It was pretty good, but it's really small and they don't take reservations :O(

We discussed Cesar's or Uncle Julio's in May...should we do one of those? I know where Fernano's it, but I haven't tried it! I'm up for anything. Cesar's and Uncle Julio's are both off red-line and Fernando's is off brown.

    Should we try to August?

Also-OP, thanks for the offer on fundraising.  I actually considered doing it for PAWS since it's an organization dear to my heart, but I opted against it in the end; I hate fundraising, maybe after I have a marathon under my belt I'd be interested.

Yes I love Mexican food (and my FI hates it haha) I've got crazy schedules for wedding coming up but I'm free: July 30 & 31 Aug 13 & 14 And that's all for weekends until after the wedding! Unless we did a weekday evening- those are tougher to organize but if it's easily accessible (downtown/lincoln park/lakeview) I can make a 630 or 7pm meeting time! Yay :)

Good to know about Twist, hz.

I'm down for Mexican as well. I used to live like kiddie corner from Cesar's so I am pretty familiar with it (and its "Killer" margs, haha), but I am up to try the other two as well, as I haven't been to those.

ETA: I am available most weekends now except for the weekend of Lolla, since I'll be there, and the end of August since school will be starting back up, and I have a wedding shower to go to, and I may be moving. So I can do 13th/14th or 20/21st of Aug or anytime before August really.

Yay!! H has a bachelor party the wknd of Aug 13/14; so that'd work well for me!

Otherwise, from now to end of August I'm booked :O( We're going to Lolla and I have a b-party and wedding at end of Aug.  But if other dates work better; I understand!

Also, I'm up for anything as well.  We should prob do somewhere that takes reservations though!

<div>It sounds like the 13th/14th is the winner so far. I don't think Cesar's takes reservations, do they? I also know that they are annoying with payment, and won't do more than 2 separate checks/forms of payment per party. </div>
  • edited December 2011

    I vote Aug 13th since it's Saturday :)

And yes reservations would be good...so let's find a place that will do that!

Perfect; the 13th; somewhere that takes reservations and splits bills...suggestions?

Bimbi-I don't think they (Cears) take reservations either, but we can check

It looks like Uncle Julio's has "call ahead" seating, but not reservations and Fernando's does take reservations according to Yelp (they don't have a website as far as I can tell).

Just seeing this thread, and I've only recently been active, but would love to meet new people!  If you guys were interested in tapas, Cafe BaBaReeba (on Halsted) is FANTASTIC! They do take reservations but not sure about the splitting bills issue.

I thought about that too...but the only probably is it gets pricey; or maybe I just like their sangria too much :O)

There's also Mi Tierra for Mexican, on Belmont near Sheffield.  I think they take res.

What about a BYOB Place?  That way the food bill would be lower and easily split.

Here is a list of BYOB Mexican places on the North side

Ooh yay I am so glad we are doing a GTG on a weekend! I always want to go but the weekday ones in the city don't work for me. Put me on the list.

FYI Ladies, Northhalsted Market Days is also going on that weekend. Anyone as obsessed with Glee as I am should know that Darren Criss is on the lineup (among many other wonderful acts, such as Gloria Gaynor and Lisa Lisa)!! :-)

Perhaps we should narrow down a place? I'm up for anything, as mentioned before. So far on the list we have:

Uncle Julio's (only call-ahead, no reservations)
    Fernando's
    Cafe Ba Ba ReeBa

    Any others?
