Bakery in the suburbs

Hi knotties! I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a wedding cake baker.  My wedding will be in the NW suburbs.

I'm not really into fancy fondant decorating - most of the cakes I like are very simple.  I'm most concerned with getting a delicious tasting cake at a reasonable price.

Any recommendations are appreciated!

  • Kirschbuams. hands down. amazing. its not fancy just a great bakery that does simple/ classic cakes, cookies etc. They are my all time favorite. Go on yelp, read the reviews. I am completely obsessed. Even if you dont use them, go get yourself a donut or a smiley face cookie. You will thank me later.

I am putting my inner fat kid away now.

  • My venue ordered our cake from Oak Mill Bakery (?).  It was delicious and we got tons of compliments on it.  Ours was plain - a sheet cake decorated with our names on it.  Not sure how much it cost since it was included, but I think when I saw the breakdown of prices, it was $90.  We had a small wedding - 50 guests and it was big enough for that size crowd and there was a bit left to take home.
  • Oak Mill Bakery has awesome cakes.  The have some many different cakes topick froma and different price ranges. All the cakes I get are alway from Oak Mill and my wedding cake will be took.  I like Ambrosia and Capitan's cakes the best. Ambrosia is to die for lol I could eat the whole cake by myself and I am not a person that likes sweets.  Their Tiered cakes are about $2.75 to $10.00 per person, depends on what flavor you want. Sheet cakes are less expensive. Basia Baranowski is a Sales manager at their Niles location, her # 847-318-6400. If you want to call and ask them.

No i do not work for them, I just love their cakes :-) I have been getting their cakes for the past 15 years.
  • In addition to Oak Mill (there are multiple locations throughout the NW burbs btw), Central Continental bakery in Mt Prospect gets great reviews too. They did my wedding shower cake and it was fabulous. Deerfield's Bakery also has amazing product, though I've never tried a wedding cake from them.
  • I used Jarosch Bakery in Elk Grove Village, and LOVED them. Great flavor, and cake looked great too. Also nicely priced compared IMO. I got a 3-tier cake plus a sheet cake for $350, it was enough to serve 185 guests, though we had less and ended up taking home our top tier which was nice. They also give a free sampler cake, full-sized, when you go for a tasting, which is pretty cool.

  • Thanks so much everyone! I'm excited to look into all of your suggestions!
  • Our cake was also from Continental Bakery and it was delicious.  They decorated it simply and to our exact specifications.  Lovin' Oven Cakery also has amazing cakes.  They have locations in Libertyville and Round Lake.  We have also had cake from Oak Mill and it was delicious. I have not been impressed with products purchased from Deerfield's Bakery.  I have also heard really good things about The Baking Institute in Wheeling.
  • Totally agree with Lovin Ovens. We just booked them. Phenomenal.
